Spoilers ahead for season 2 episode 5 'Austin' of 'A Million Little Things'

In episode 5 of 'A Million Little Things', Gary (James Roday) and Maggie (Allison Miller) are set to go to their breast cancer survivor support group. But Maggie excuses herself from it by saying that she has to share her apartment with Delilah (Stephanie Szostak) so she can give the apartment to someone.

So Gary goes by himself. He asks the group how he can support someone who has had breast cancer. The women tell him that Maggie actually wants to move on. Now that she is in remission, she doesn't wish to be reminded of having gone through cancer again and again and that she wants to begin afresh. She is trying to figure out a way of dealing with the complicated emotions that surviving cancer has brought. At the beginning of the episode, Maggie is also shown throwing away the plans she made for her funeral.

At the same time, Maggie is setting up the house with Delilah, but the conversation moves to Delilah missing Jon and then Maggie missing Chad. Maggie brings up Eric and asks Delilah if she thinks that a part of Chad really does live inside Eric. The conversation makes her very emotional prompting her to visit Eric's music shop. When she gets there, she is already sobbing but breaks down in Eric's arms.

Once she is calm, Maggie tells him how she used to play the piano once upon a time and that her brother used to sit in the first row to support her through stage fright. But she admits that she hasn't gotten back to the practice. Eric tells her about an open mic night happening at a local bar and encourages her to perform saying that if she is scared, he will be right there in the first row.

When Gary and Maggie do meet at Delilah's for the family photograph, Gary tells her that he feels very distant from her and would like to hear that things between the two of them are alright. He also tells her that he wishes to support her in figuring out who she is without cancer.

But Maggie has plans of her own and turns him. "I love you. This is something I need to do myself," she says.

Later on, Maggie is shown playing the piano and singing. The scene shows Eric sitting in the first row and looking up to her, enjoying the song. Gary visits the piano bar and sees Eric, they nod at each other and he leaves seemingly irked. But as it turns out, Maggie never went to the piano bar, she was playing the piano for herself in her old home.

'A Million Little Things' airs on Thursdays at 9|8c on ABC.
