Ashanti Grant: Family of 9-year-old, shot in road-rage attack, PLEADS shooter to surrender
A 9-year-old girl shot in the head during a suspected road-rage attack in Houston on Tuesday, February 8, is fighting for her life. Her family now pleads shooter to surrender. The young girl whose name is Ashanti Grant was struck by a bullet while going to a grocery store with her parents and a 12-year-old brother in their family car, Chevrolet Tahoe.
The incident happened when the family vehicle she was traveling in somehow got in between two other cars racing on the Southwest Freeway. The police said the driver of a white GMC Denali pickup truck opened fire on the SUV, striking Ashanti in the head. No arrests have been made so far. The relatives of the 9-year-old girl said Ashanti has some brain swelling, but they’re hopeful that she will recover.

As per local news reports, Ashanti's mother, father, and brother were not hurt during the suspected road-rage gunfire. "Ashanti has a full life ahead of her and doesn’t deserve this at all," her uncle Larry Grant told in an interview with KHOU ."If anybody knows anything or sees anything, please step forward. Do it for Ashanti."
Ashanti's grandmother, Elaine Williams told the station, "Meanwhile, this guy is still on the streets somewhere." "He knows what he did. Somebody pick up the phone, even if you’re related to them. You have to think about this kid, and how we feel that she’s in the hospital fighting for her life. A bullet went in her head". Williams also called on Brazoria County, where the girl lives to pray for her full recovery.
As per police authorities, the driver of the white GMC Denali was a man between the ages of 20 and 30. The accused also had a female passenger in the vehicle, which had distinctive arrow marks on its rear blinkers. Houston police Lt Ronald Willkens said, "We’re going to do everything we can to find these individuals." Houston police department announced a reward of $5000 for any information regarding the gunman.
Meanwhile, Ashanti's family is willing to double that amount to track down the shooter. As of Thursday, an online fundraiser set up for Ashanti had garnered more than $3,900. "This will be a long road to recovery for her," the girl’s aunt NaTasha Grant wrote. "Funds will be sent directly to her family to cover any medical/recovery expenses that she will need to get back to her life."
