SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA: Nike gets slammed on social media for bringing in Dylan Mulvaney as the ambassador for its sports bra for women. Mulvaney, who was a born male but later identified as female, was seen wearing black leggings and a white sports bra. Mulvaney was also in the news recently for her appearance in the Drew Barrymore show

The model also ran into controversy when the beer brand Bud Light collaborated with Mulvaney on Instagram. However, the recent move by Nike has apparently angered many people for their collaboration. There is no clarity regarding how much Mulvaney was paid for the post.

What does the post explain?

The collaboration post was captioned, "Home for a moment and leaning into cozy workout wear life with @nikewomen ‘s newest Zenvy leggings and Alate bra! They’re so comfortable and buttery soft, perfect for workouts and everyday wear! #feelyourall #teamnike #nikepartner." Mulvaney rose to fame when she started documenting her transition from male to female on TikTok. Earlier this year, Mulvaney underwent facial feminization surgery. This surgery was focused on what typically "encompasses a broad range of procedures to change the shape of the face to look feminine," as per Mayo Clinic. Further, "It includes having the hairline moved to create a smaller forehead, having lips and cheekbones augmented, or having the jaw and chin reshaped and resized. Skin-tightening surgery, such as a face-lift, is another option."

What is the Bud Light controversy?

Mulvaney also shared a collaboration post with Bud Light Beer. The post shared was captioned, "Happy March Madness!! Just found out this had to do with sports and not just saying it’s a crazy month! In celebration of this sports thing @budlight is giving you the chance to win $15,000! Share a video with #EasyCarryContest for a chance to win!! Good luck! #budlightpartner." This collaboration also angered many of the fans, which led to huge protests across social media. This even led to some celebrities reacting to the situation. Musician Kid Rock released a video of him shooting a few Bud Light cans and then posing next to them with Make America Great Again cap. He said in the video, “Grandpa’s feeling a little frisky today. Let me say something to all you and be as clear and concise as possible.F**k Bud Light and f**k Anheuser-Busch. Have a terrific day.” Anheuser-Busch is the parent company of Bud Light.

The brand claimed in an official statement, “Anheuser-Busch works with hundreds of influencers across our brands as one of many ways to authentically connect with audiences across various demographics. From time to time we produce unique commemorative cans for fans and for brand influencers, like Dylan Mulvaney. This commemorative can was a gift to celebrate a personal milestone and is not for sale to the general public," as per Buzzfeed News.

'Making a mockery of real women everywhere'

The Internet quickly reacted to the post. A user said," Dylan Mulvaney is now being paid by Nike Women to promote sports bras- even though he’s a man! Another day, another company slapping all women in the face by mocking them and paying a man to take their place! #nike #gowokegobroke #dylanmulvaney." Journalist Lori Mills commented, "I haven’t supported Nike in years." "No more money for Nike then!," said another. A comment stated, "LOL! I’m a woman and I have never pranced around like Dylan does unless I was trying to make my baby nieces and nephews laugh!! This is so stupid and insulting! Really @nike?." "Sickening, grotesque and offensive. I'm going to bonfire all my @Nike shoes tomorrow in support of real women," claimed another. Another asked, "Are these companies trying to destroy their own Brands?" Political commentator, Michelle LA said, "Making a mockery of real women everywhere." Another noted, "I'm already sick, now I'm bout to throw up." A tweet read, "I haven’t purchased @Nike since they started supporting woke agendas with Colin Kapernack." "This is just out of control at this point," added another. A user claimed, "From Serena Williams to THIS!!??." "LOL all these people who haven’t noticed that Nike has been one of the most woke companies for years.," said a user.
