Zooey Deschanel, Jacob Pechenik file for divorce as actress makes romance with Jonathan Scott Instagram official
Zooey Deschanel and Jacob Pechenik have filed for divorce in the light of the actress' ongoing romance with Jonathan Scott.
According to legal documents, reviewed by E! News, the 47-year-old film producer filed the divorce papers in Los Angeles on October 22, which cited "irreconcilable differences" as a reason for ending the marriage. The documents also revealed that he and the 'New Girl' actress had been separated since January.
The couple had announced their split back in September, after four years of marriage.
"After much discussion and a long period of contemplation, we have decided we are better off as friends, business partners and co-parents rather than life partners," the former couple previously told E! News in a joint statement. "We remain committed to our business, our values and most of all our children. Thank you for respecting our privacy at this time."
In divorce papers, Jacob has asked for joint legal and physical custody of the two children he shares with Zooey, 39 — Elsie Otter Pechenik, 4, and Charlie Wolf Pechenik, 2.
The news of Jacob filing for divorce came just a day after his estranged wife made her relationship with the 'Property Brothers' star official on Instagram with a cute picture of her screaming and jumping into his arms at Universal Studios’ Halloween Horror Nights in Los Angeles. In the picture were also present Jonathan's twin brother, Drew Scott, and his wife, Linda Phan with equally animated expressions on their faces.
A day after Zooey and Jonathan's PDA-filled pictures surfaced on September 13, Hollywood Life reached out to Jacob for a statement. At the time, he said, "Yeah, everything is amicable and we have two beautiful children together. We’ve been raising them and we’re going to continue to raise them, and take great care of get them… I’m happy.”
Zooey and Jacob had secretly tied the knot in June 2015.
