Spoilers for season 2 finale of 'Yellowstone' titled 'Sins of the Father'

In the season 2 finale of 'Yellowstone' titled 'Sins of the Father', Cole Hauser's Rip finally received the recognition from John Dutton (Kevin Costner) that he has been pining for all his life - to be recognized as his son. John also left his eldest son Lee's house to Rip, but for him, the more important thing is that John called him 'son'.

This season also gave us many long-overdue Rip and Beth (Kelly Reilly) moments - moments that have been both rare and heartwarming. The most special of the lot was that chilly night where the two were perched atop the roof, talking about the possibilities of their dates. Some lovey-dovey banter later, Rip opens up about his family - he tells her of the money he is putting in getting the busts for his family ready. Rip seemed closer to confess that he loves Beth, but she tells him to instead say it when she really needs it.  Later, after the brutal attack on Beth, Rip tells her he loves her before she collapses.

Beth and Rip met as kids and have always had a string tying them together. They lost their virginity to each other and have been in a constant on-again-off-again situation. But their love for each other hasn't wavered. The finale gives us all the more reason to believe that the makers of 'Yellowstone' intend to take their story forward. John's recognition of Rip shows that he is not just being grateful for saving his daughter but that he also recognizes Rip's love for Beth and that they both love each other in ways that no one else can. There is also something else that binds both of them together - their unwavering love and loyalty towards John, despite being aware of his demons.

After the end of season 2, Paramount Network shared a sneak peek for season 3, which teased the two sharing a passionate kiss. Cole Hauser, who plays Rip, teased that the next season will show the love that Rip and Beth have for each other and that the makers will be spending some time exploring their relationship.

'Yellowstone' season 3 will be coming to Paramount Network in 2020. You can catch up on seasons 1 and 2 on the official website.
