LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'X-men '97', the sequel to the beloved 'X-Men: The Animated Series' dropped its first 2 episodes together on Disney+ on Wednesday, March 20.

In the first episode, we got to look at the new X-Men team as well as the return of their arch nemesis, Magneto, as their new leader, which added a nice twist to the ongoing plot, leaving fans excited for what's going to happen next.

Episode 2 starts with Magneto (Matthew Waterson) assuring all the X-Men that he is only here to fulfill his best friend Professor Charles Xavier's last wish, i.e., to see mutants and humans coexist in harmony. However, things take a dark turn as the episode continues.

Magneto's trial at the UN court goes awry

In Episode 2, Magneto faces arrest for his numerous crimes against humanity and undergoes a trial like any other human. During his defense, he argues that he only retaliated against humans who oppressed mutants and never intended harm unless provoked.

Magneto reveals he has endured mistreatment, harassment, and attacks since childhood.

He explains that his surrender was a bid to earn the trust of those around him, as he desires to follow the peaceful path his dead friend once walked.

X-Cutioner, a protester, opposes Magneto's trial, arguing that Magneto, being different from humans, doesn't deserve a trial and should face direct punishment.

He breaches the UN court's front doors, intending to confront the X-Men, who support Magneto. X-Cutioner believes the judges, though human, are complicit in granting Magneto a trial and are betraying their own kind by doing so.

Things get heated up very quickly as a huge battle takes place in the court between X-Cutioner and the X-Men.

This adds depth to the plot as neither side is wholly righteous; their beliefs drive their actions. The X-Cutioner's stance introduces complexity: he dismisses Magneto's trial as unnecessary, while the X-Men pursue justice through legal channels.

The conflict stems from divergent viewpoints rather than clear-cut morality.

Towards the end of the episode, Magneto uses his powers to subdue the X-Cutioner but also lets the judges know that he could have killed the X-Cutioner if he wanted to, but chose not to since he has changed.

This brings Episode 2 to a dramatic conclusion.

The first two episodes of 'X-Men '97' are streaming on Disney+
