LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'X-Men '97', the long-awaited sequel to the beloved 'X-Men: The Animated Series' dropped its first two episodes on Disney+ on Wednesday, March 20. With a stellar voice cast, some fresh, some old, fans can expect a promising continuation.
The first episode began with the X-Men dealing with the absence of their leader and mentor, Professor Charles Xavier. However, the crucial question of who would take over the leadership of the team remained unanswered.
Scott and Jean take over X-Men momentarily after Professor Charles Xavier's death
As the first two mutants to join the X-Men from the beginning, Scott and Jean felt it was their duty to step up and fill the void left by Professor Xavier. They took on the responsibility of not only leading the mutants but also managing the school and handling other political matters.
Wolverine, in particular, appears dissatisfied with this self-appointed decision, especially due to his grudge against Scott.
The real leader of the X-men is revealed
Towards the end of the episode, while the X-Men are playing basketball, their security system suddenly alerts them to an intruder in Professor Xavier's room. Rushing to investigate, they are shocked to find none other than Magneto inside.
He presents them with Professor Xavier's official will, in which Xavier designates Magneto as his successor, granting him control of all his assets and leadership of the X-Men.
Will the X-Men accept their arch nemesis as their new leader or will they fight for what they think is right? That's for us to find out in the coming episodes.
