Former WWE star Ashley Massaro dies at age 39 after she was found unconscious at home
Ashley Massaro, former WWE wrestler has passed away. She was 39 years old. Her cause of death is unknown at the time. According to reports, the star died on Thursday morning after being taken to the hospital in the Suffolk County, New York area.
Initial reports say that police are classifying her death as non-criminal. The police dispatch obtained by The Blast reveals that the “rescue call” came in at 5:23 a.m to her home in Smithtown and that they were responding to an unconscious female who they administered CPR on the way to the hospital.
Massaro started her career in 2005 and was known for winning WWE's Raw Diva Search that year and her high-profile match against Melina at Wrestlemania 23 in 2007. The star was also a part of 'Survivor: China' but she was voted off in the second episode in 2007. She hung her WWE wrestling boots back in 2008, however, made her return with another pro company in 2017. Just a day before her death, she was seen on social media sorting out fan mail.
"Just answered a ton of fanmail so you guys should be receiving them soon! Love ya punx🤘🏼🖤," she wrote alongside a photo of her sifting through envelopes. Fans, shocked and saddened by her death, took to her Twitter to offer their condolences to her friends and family.
She parted ways with WWE in 2008 and made her comeback with another professional wrestling company in 2017. WWE released a statement upon hearing about the star's death. They said, "We are saddened to learn of the tragic death of former WWE Superstar Ashley Massaro," the statement reads. "She performed in WWE from 2005-2008 and was beloved by her fellow Superstars and fans around the world. WWE offers its condolences to Ashley’s family and friends." They further added with a black and white photo of the star, "WWE remembers the career of the late Ashley Massaro."
