Tyreece Wood: Woman claims nose doubled in size during pregnancy making her unrecognizable
MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA: Tyreece Wood has admitted to having a severe case of pregnancy nose, which caused her nose to grow by a significant amount, leaving her completely unrecognizable. Wood, 24, observed that the size of her nose started to change at the end of her first trimester but initially didn't think much of it until it drastically changed from its original size and form.
The US-based content creator noticed that as time went on, the texture of her skin, as well as her hair and eyebrows, started to change. Wood revealed that she felt terrible when her pregnancy was over and didn't "recognize" herself in the mirror. She chose to share her experience on TikTok in an effort to make light of the situation, and it has now received more than 15 million views and 1.8 million likes.

'That's why there aren't many pictures of me pregnant'
Wood, a direct support professional said, "The changes made me feel disgusting. Dealing with your body changes during pregnancy is already hard but looking in the mirror and not recognizing yourself is disheartening. That's why there aren't many pictures of me pregnant."
Wood continued by saying that she felt alone and had never heard of any other women talking about the symptoms she had. She said, "I had never seen anyone talk about most of the symptoms I had throughout my pregnancy. I thought all the changes would be in my weight and hormones for sure."
Wood added, "But in reality, my skin and hair texture changed, one of my brows became more prominent, I gained 100lbs and my skin got darker as well." Strangely, Wood claims that it wasn't until after she had given birth that her spouse and other family members noticed the change in her look.
Wood said, "I did ask my husband and family members if they noticed a difference and they always said either no, or maybe a little. My husband only pointed it out after our son was born and we were looking back at the hospital pictures. That's when he realized that my nose was normally a lot smaller."
'I'm getting a surrogate!!'
Many were stunned by what Wood revealed in the video, with many finding it difficult to believe it was the same person as she displayed a selection of photos from both before and throughout her pregnancy. One person wrote, "I have questions!!! how do you look now??? I'm scared."
Another person wrote, "That is 2 different people im not ready for this point in pregnancy." A third person wrote, "I'm getting a surrogate!!" This other person wrote, "Can you show us how you progressed throughout your pregnancy??" One person who has also experienced pregnancy nose wrote, "Pregnancy nose is real af y'all I'm on my 3rd kid it never gets better."
What is a pregnancy nose?
Pregnancy nose, also known as "pregnant rhinitis" medically, is the term used to describe how a woman's nose may grow and change shape before giving birth. It happens as a result of a considerable rise in the hormone estrogen, which relaxes all of the body's tissue's blood vessels. It makes the tissue of the nose bigger by allowing more blood to enter.
One in five pregnant women experiences pregnancy rhinitis. The face modification may be "more noticeable for some women," claims Professor Adam Taylor, head of the Clinical Anatomy Learning Centre and professor of anatomy at Lancaster University.
Taylor said, "The reason it happens is due to the significant increases in hormone levels during pregnancy – particularly because of the increase in estrogen, which relaxes the blood vessels in all the body's tissue. This allows more blood into the nose's tissue, causing it to expand and change shape – looking larger and puffier," according to The Conversation.
