'I'd choose it every time': Mom-of-2 sparks fierce debate about the 'best' age gap between children
A mother sparked an online debate after admitting she thinks four years is the "perfect" age difference for children. Although she has not always believed it, American mother Kaitlin Klimmer said in a video posted on TikTok that having two children under the age of two "just ain't for me"
Instead, she opted for a four-year age difference between her first and second children, and Kaitlin explained that she would do so again and again. "Okay, unpopular opinion, but having a four-year age gap between your kids is the best," Kaitlin said in the clip. "When I was trying to get pregnant with my second, we had three miscarriages and I was getting so anxious about the growing age gap between them."

Kaitlin says she'll choose 4-year age gap 'every time'
Kaitlin said that now that they are "on the other side of that (her miscarriages)," she thinks the "four-year age gap is unreal and I would choose it every time." "For example, I just finished putting my 16-month-old down for a nap and we always lie with our kids until they're asleep," Kaitlin said. "So I was lying with her and I fell asleep also, I woke up 20 minutes later just not at all concerned about what my five-year-old was up to. Like, she's five? She can hang out for half an hour by herself."
She said when she went in to check on her daughter and said "sorry that took so long," her daughter was "just making her birthday invitations for her birthday... that's in August." Kaitlin concluded by saying, "It's just so nice."
'I completely disagree with you'
It didn't take long for the video to be viewed by more than 200,000 people, many of whom disagreed with Kaitlin's viewpoint on age differences. "Only good for the parents. Once [your kids] are a little older they are like built-in best friends, that was my experience with two boys 20 months apart," one person wrote. Another user added, "As a kid with a sibling with a four-year age gap, I completely disagree with you. My sister and I were never close growing up and aren't close at all as adults."
Not everybody, however, diagreed with Kaitlin. "I don't think an age gap determines how close siblings will be. It's personality, communication, how well the entire family gets along," one person wrote. While a second commented, "People worry about them not being friends if they're farther apart but my sisters are six and 11 years older than me and are my BEST friends."
