DARBY, PENNSYLVANIA: The police have discovered a woman's decomposing body folded in a mattress in Upper Darby, Delaware County, Pennsylvania. The body was found in a residential back alley along the 7000 block of Greenwood Avenue, near Church Lane, according to authorities. The folded mattress with body was left a few steps away from a playground.

Paramedics responded to the 911 call around midnight on Monday, January 16, according to local NBC station WPVI-TV. Upon examination, police were unable to identify the body. The medical examiner, however, determined that the body belonged to a white female. The circumstances behind the woman's death are currently being investigated.

Timothy Bernhardt, the chief of police in Upper Darby, reported that no indications of a gunshot or blunt force injury were present. The precise cause of death, however, has been labeled "suspicious" for now, as reported by The US Sun.

Neighbors did not spot anyone moving the mattress in the alley, according to local news sources. Investigators also stated that no missing persons have been reported in Upper Darby at this time. Anyone with information is asked to call the police. "We're asking anyone who might have seen anything down there to please call our detectives with any information or anything they think was suspicious," Bernhardt said.

MEAWW previously reported a relatively similar incident, where a mummified dead female body was recovered from a donation bin that has not been emptied for many years near Lugoff, South Carolina. The discovery on New Year's Eve prompted a police investigation, which is now being conducted by numerous authorities. The body was discovered after a passerby on Highway 1 noticed a bad odor coming from the container. Though the authorities have yet to identify the victim or the events that led to the female corpse being dumped in the dumpster, according to police sources, the body had been laying in that condition for months, and the bin was rusted.

Kershaw County Sheriff, Lee Boan says that the body appears to have been there "for months." The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, which has joined the inquiry, has also been asked to investigate the scene "as if it were a homicide," according to Sheriff Boan. Although no information on how the tragedy occurred has been released, officials have not ruled anything out as of yet. Investigators are currently examining the death as a homicide and have removed the bin and body for additional examination, according to Boan.
