A displeased woman recounted how her sister humiliated her during a wedding toast before accusing her of ruining their $10K wedding. The unidentified woman, who uses ‘OilProfessionalxx’ as her username on Reddit, said the story began when her 24-year-old sister invited her to their "very well planned out" wedding, which was attended by more than 100 people.

“My sister’s wedding was very well planned out we received invitations 6 months before and my sister poured about 10,000$ into this wedding- and that's without catering costs added. It was an ethnic wedding, so there were some friends of friends,” the woman wrote in the 'AITA' subreddit. She said she enjoyed the wedding and ate a few dishes that she dreams to eat once again in her life. However, things took a turn for the worse after the bride and groom got ready to give their wedding toast at the reception.

"Her husband's speech was touching with a humorous twist. When it came time for her to say hers, however, things went south," the woman wrote in the post. The sister's speech "started off fine" with a few jokes and "nothing bad" spoken about family members. "But then it got to me," the woman wrote. "She made a joke about considering having a dry wedding because I was 'such an addict'. To clarify, I have struggled with alcohol addiction, and she is well aware.”

'I felt humiliated'

The woman said her sister never supported her during her rehabilitation and always mocked her for being an addict. "Everyone laughed and I felt humiliated. She was laughing too and then continued. I didn't want to interrupt her so I just waited. I felt like crying and screaming at the same time, it was a rage yet sadness I'd never experienced before," she continued. Hurt by her sister's words, the user decided to express her frustration as she brought her to some private place. “I told her that I didn't appreciate her joke and it wasn't funny and that I felt she humiliated me,” the woman noted.

Her sister didn't take this well and started yelling things like "I have a whole wedding waiting for me back there, who do you think you are to bring me here and waste my time," and "It's just a joke, don't be so pissy." The bride then accused her sister of ruining her wedding and went back to the ceremony. The woman said when she got back to the party, everyone was staring at her while her sister was crying in her dad’s arms. “My dad proceeded to yell at me telling me I ruined my sister's wedding and made a scene. I yelled back and when I noticed a lot of people were watching, I got angry and left,” she added.

'She ruined her own wedding'

The woman concluded by asking: "Now all my family's mad at me and they won't stop sending me texts telling me I should apologize. I don't want to. AITA?" The post has garnered immense social media attention, with many users slamming the bride. “Perspective is a funny thing. Her joke caused drama, but you handled the response privately. Her reaction to that was public - aka, she ruined her own wedding. NTA. Brava for being so classy and strong. Very impressive!” one user wrote.

“NTA. She publicly humiliated you, and you privately told her that wasn't okay. I am not understanding her reaction unless some context is missing,” another said while a third asserted, “WTF was the sister crying about when she's the one who caused anguish? OP should have been the only one crying.” Someone else chimed in saying, “NTA. You made sure to have expressed your feelings regarding the cruel "joke" in a way that would NOT make a scene. She was the one who decided to act out in public.”
