'It scales pretty crazily': Zack Snyder confirms future plans for 'Rebel Moon Part 3'
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: As 'Rebel Moon - Part Two: The Scargiver' debuts on Netflix, fans are already buzzing with curiosity about the future of the series, speculating about the possibility of a Part 3 in the space opera franchise.
'Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire' was released on Netflix in December 2023 while 'Rebel Moon - Part Two: The Scargiver' began streaming on Friday, April 19, 2024.
While the film is a two-part saga, it is essentially one big film split into two parts, rather than being two different films, and with the conclusion of the second part, viewers wonder if there is more to this sci-fi fantasy saga.
Here's all we know about 'Rebel Moon Part 3' so far.
Is 'Rebel Moon Part 3' in the works?
While speaking to Yahoo UK, director Zack Snyder confirmed that there are plans in place to take the space opera saga forward.
“We have big whiteboards with all the timelines and all the different [options]... so the answer is, yes, it can go [gestures big]," Zack said while speaking to the outlet.
Zack Snyder suggested that the scale of the third part could be bigger than the first two parts.
"It scales pretty crazily. You can imagine: this third act of this movie is a pretty big battle. But I think if you were to make more movies, that would be nothing compared to what's potentially in the offing." said the director who is known for filming big-budget visual spectacles.
Further affirming the possibilities of part 3, the screenwriter of the franchise, Kurt Johnstad, suggested that they have plans for six 'Rebel Moon' movies.
While speaking to Screenrant, Kurt said, "So, basically, we have everything mapped out for many, many movies. Beyond Three. Beyond four. I will go on the record now. We’ve figured this out all the way to movie six."
So, if all galactical stars align and Netflix decides to greenlight the project, 'Rebel Moon Part 3' will be happening soon.
What happened in 'Rebel Moon - Part Two: The Scargiver'?
'Rebel Moon - Part Two: The Scargiver' follows Kora (Sofia Boutella) and the other warriors trying to defend their homeworld Veldt from the Motherworld and the menacing admiral Atticus Noble (Ed Skrein)
It begins with the surviving members from the events of 'Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire', grappling with their pasts before the final battle ensues.
The movie delves into the motivations of the rebel members in their fight against the Realm's forces. The final act of the film culminates in a massive battle between the rebel warriors and the tyrant Balisarius' army.
What could be the plot of 'Rebel Moon Part 3'?
Rebel Moon Part 3 could expand its universe and venture beyond Veldt to explore new territories. In the interview with Yahoo UK, Zack Snyder talks about the possibilities of exploring other political issues of the universe.
He said, "If you think about this movie, it really is pretty intimate. You know, it's just our small village and the villagers. Yeah, the Dreadnought comes and it's scary, but it doesn't really resolve any of the greater political issues in this universe. And [the Motherworld] is still ruled by Balisarius."
There may also be an opportunity to delve into the backstories of various characters through potential spin-offs. Actress Sofia Boutella hints at exploring Tarak's (Staz Nair) backstory in the same interview.
She says, “I want to know more about the arc between where he comes from and where he lands — it is so interesting,”
So, we're all eagerly waiting for the potential sequels and spin-offs. Bring them on.
