'We all deserve a second chance': A tearful Will Smith says he slapped Chris Rock due to 'bottled rage'
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Will Smith has reminisced on the 'slap seen around the world,' which occurred earlier this year at the Oscars ceremony when he stormed the stage and slapped host Chris Rock after he joked about his wife Jade Pinkett Smith.
Following the sensational incident, the Academy stated that Smith would be barred from attending any Academy activities for the next decade. The actor has kept a quiet profile since then. He has issued many apologies regarding his actions on the night of the Oscars, but 'Emancipation,' Smith's movie which will be available on the streaming service in December, is gradually bringing him back into the spotlight, as reported by Cosmopolitan.

Will discussed his behavior with talk show host Trevor Noah on 'The Daily Show' on Monday. Noah said to the actor, "It felt like this was Will Smith for the first time going, 'OK, is this how you want me to respond or not?'" In response, Will replied, "It was a lot of things; it was the little boy that watched his father beat up his mother. All of that just bubbled up in that moment. That's not who I want to be…."
"That's not who you are," Trevor chimed in, throwing his friend a bone. "I believe that anyone might mistake in life."
A plainly emotional but smiling Will took out a tissue from his pocket and wiped his eyes before declaring, "Now I'm crying for real", and further added that the Oscars was "a horrific night, as you can imagine."
He further added, "I understand how shocking that was for people. I was gone. That was a rage that had been bottled for a really long time."
The actor faced a lot of backlash from netizens after the incident; however, now many on the internet are ready to move ahead, but a few users are still furious with his action.
One user wrote, "Stop trying to start something that's already been dealt with. Will Smith has apologized several times for what he has done. Hollywood has other actors still doing far worse things that are not being talked about. Can we please move on? Looking forward to watching."
Another user wrote, "Will Smith let his emotions get to him and he deserves another chance for all the great he has done in society. We all deserve a second chance, life is short and precious."
One of the users tried to understand Smith's emotions and wrote, "What's wrong with y'all, Will Smith had a breakdown, it happens to us all, & the "you shouldn't support violence crowd," shut it. Because at some point, y'all wanted to. In society, how does one go about getting a second chance when all people want to do is throw stones?"
Other user wrote, "It looks like Will Smith is with you! If so, Praise God!!! That brother deserves a second chance. The “world” may be done with him, but the Lord will receive him!!!
