'No room for a narcissist': Internet isn't buying Will Smith's teary apology to Chris Rock

Almost four months after the dumbfounding event, the ‘King Richard’ star has finally apologized to Chris Rock for his action and said that he “fogged out” after the incident and that’s why he did not apologize to the acclaimed comedian while he was accepting the Oscar for his role in ‘King Richard’. On Friday, the star posted a 6-minute video on his official YouTube channel and answered some of the burning questions asked by his loving fans who were left deeply disappointed with the actor’s actions on Hollywood’s biggest night.

The ‘Bad Boys For Life’ star also revealed that he has reached out to Chris Rock multiple times but the comedian is not ready to have a conversation with him yet. In the video, he said, “I was fogged out by that point. It’s all fuzzy. I reached out to Chris, and the message that came back is he’s not ready to talk, but when he is, he will reach out.” Smith went on to apologize to the ‘Dolemite Is My Name’ actor and once again admitted that his behavior was “unacceptable”. He added, “I will say to you, Chris, I apologize to you and I’m here whenever you’re ready to talk.”
He not only apologized to the comedian, but he also apologized to his family, especially his brother Tony. Smith also made it clear that his wife Jada had nothing to do with what he did at the Oscars after she rolled her eyes at a joke made by Rock.
“I hate when I let people down, so it hurts psychologically and emotionally to know that I didn’t live up to people’s image and impression of me. I know it was confusing. I know it was shocking, but I promise you I am deeply devoted to putting light and love and joy into the world,” he said while concluding his apology.
As soon as the video surfaced online, people flooded social media with a lot of reactions and most of them believed that the apology meant nothing because he showed his “true colors” in front of the whole world. After the incident, the Academy took the decision of banning Smith from attending any of its events, including the Oscars, for 10 years. However, the organization made it clear that he can get nominated for his work at the event. The apology comes almost a week after it was reported that Smith is receiving $35 million for his upcoming Apple TV+ movie ‘Emancipation’, making him the second highest-paid actor of 2022 after Tom Cruise.
