Chris Hemsworth shares why good friend Tom Hiddleston isn't invited to 'Avengers' chat group with Robert Downey Jr and Chris Evans
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The Avengers of the Marvel Cinematic Universe stay connected even when they are not physically together. In November 2022, during a discussion on 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!' about their reactions to Chris Evans being named Sexiest Man Alive, Chris Hemsworth revealed the existence of an Avengers group chat.
However, despite Tom Hiddleston's portrayal of Loki for an equal duration as Hemsworth's portrayal of Thor, he is not included in this chat. Nevertheless, Hemsworth, who portrays the God of Thunder, did mention that there is a consolation prize for Hiddleston. "Yeh, ‘cause he’s not an Avenger. But I text Tom on the side, we have a good friendship, but yeah, Avengers text chain. Sorry, Tom."
Not one of Earth's Mightiest Heroes
During the promotional activities for ‘Extraction 2’, the newly released movie exclusively available to Netflix subscribers since last weekend, Hemsworth made an appearance on British GQ. On YouTube, within the comments section, a viewer raised the question of whether Hiddleston's absence from the Avengers text chain was intentional, prompting Hemsworth to provide a response.
As Will Smith's Genie famously said in 2019's Aladdin, "the deal is in the details", and this situation exemplifies that statement. If we were discussing a text chain exclusively for actors who appeared in 2012's ‘The Avengers’, it would indeed be unjust for Tom Hiddleston to be excluded. After all, he played the primary antagonist, Loki, in that film, which becomes evident when watching the Marvel movies in chronological order.
However, this text chain is specifically for actors who portray Avengers. While Hiddleston currently portrays a redeemed version of the God of Mischief in the Loki series on Disney+, he is not considered one of Earth's Mightiest Heroes. Hence, it is understandable that he is not granted membership in this chat.
There might be a side chat
It's true that Tom Hiddleston and Chris Hemsworth, having co-starred in multiple Marvel movies, including Loki's appearances in ‘Avengers: Endgame’, likely have their own sidechat going on. Given their history and shared experiences, it would be surprising if they didn't text each other at all. In fact, taking it a step further, they could initiate a group chat specifically for actors who have been part of the ‘Thor’ movies. This would create an exclusive haven within the MCU where Hiddleston wouldn't be excluded, and other actors like Tessa Thompson, Idris Elba, Taika Waititi, and more could join.
It would offer a different dynamic, excluding actors such as Downey, Evans, Johansson, and Renner, while still allowing Mark Ruffalo to be part of both groups, considering his involvement in ‘Thor: Ragnarok’. Such a chat would provide a unique space for those connected through the Thor franchise to interact and share their experiences.
Despite being part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston have not shared significant screen time together. Hiddleston is currently leading the Loki series and is set to return for its second season later this year. However, he made a brief appearance in one of the end-credits scenes of ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’, which set the stage for the upcoming season of the Disney+ show.
