MOSCOW, IDAHO: The mystery of the killer behind the murders of the four University of Idaho students Ethan Chapin, 20, Xana Kernodle, 20, Madison Mogen, 21, and Kaylee Goncalves, 21, seems to be resolving after the arrest of 28-year-old criminology student Bryan Kohberger on December 30, 2022. But people are still wondering “Why is the focus on Madison and Kaylee?” One asked, "Why isn’t there much talk about Ethan and Xana leading up to the murders?"

Taking it to Reddit, one of many users answered by saying, “The public has seen the girls in videos and photos just hours before the murders so that’s why the focus, at least public focus, has been mainly on them.” One more said, "Kaylee and Madison were captured on video, so the Internet spent the following month dissecting that video for 'clues'. As far as anyone knows, Ethan and Xana spent the night at a party and then came straight home. So there's less to discuss."

'Everyone goes to Corner Club': Details emerge about bar Madison Mogen, Kaylee Goncalves visited before murders

As previously reported, surveillance footage believed to be taken early on November 13 showed Kaylee and Madison walking in downtown Moscow, accompanied by a man, just hours before they were murdered. It was also reported that the two had spent the night at the Corner Club, a Moscow dive bar popular among students. At around 1.30 am, they were spotted on camera buying carbonara pasta from Grub Wandering Kitchen.

Pointing out another reason, one wrote, "Kaylee’s father has been pretty outspoken to the press. I haven’t been following the case as closely as many here, but just a casual search on the case pulls up interviews and quotes from her father." Another backed by saying, "Yeah her dad dominated the press."

'Hope they picked the right guy'

Steve Goncalves, Kaylee's father said in an interview after the arrest of the suspect, "This is the first bit of joy that we've had in close to seven weeks. We hope they picked the right guy and that gives us hope, and we haven't had hope for a long time." He also commented before the extradition hearing that took place on December 3. He said, as reported by MEAWW, "This guy's gonna have to look me in my eyes multiples times, and I'm going to be looking for the truth. That's really what I'm going to be looking for."

The reasons why Madison and Kaylee grabbed the attention continued to pour in as one individual said, "It seems like K and M were much more active on social media, so there's just more photos and footage of them."

Bryan faces four counts of first-degree murder

Bryan, who graduated from DeSales University in Pennsylvania in May 2022 with a master of arts in criminal justice and is a PhD student in the Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology at Washington State University, was arrested by the FBI and Pennsylvania State Police on December 30, arraigned by a Monroe County judge. He faces four counts of first-degree murder for the brutal stabbings of four students. At a court hearing on December 3, Kohberger waived extradition as he agreed to be extradited from Pennsylvania to Idaho in his first court hearing, as previously reported by MEAWW.
