'Lifestyle differences' contributed to deterioration of ‘Asteroid City’ star Scarlett Johansson's 2-year marriage to Romain Dauriac
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Scarlett Johansson is undoubtedly one of the most acclaimed and versatile stars of Hollywood, with more than 50 acting credits under her belt. The two-time Academy Award winner will add another feather to her hat with much awaited ‘Asteroid City’, which is slated to release on June 16, 2023.
The buzz around the sci-fi rom-com has brought the ‘Black Widow’ star's personal life back into the spotlight. Johansson is currently enjoying a sweet spot in her third marriage to 'SNL Weekend Update' co-host Colin Jost. While her current romance seems like a charm, her previous two marriages proved messy. Before Jost, the actress was married to Ryan Reynolds, whom she divorced in December 2010. Then she went on to marry the French advertising agent/journalist/art curator Romain Dauriac but that union too suffered a similar fate. The couple was married for 2 years during which they welcomed their adorable daughter Rose.
How Scarlett Johansson and Romain Dauriac met
Johansson and Dauriac were first seen together in 2012 on a date in New York City. As per reports, they were hooked up by a mutual friend, a tattoo artist named Fuzi. Reflecting on their first meet, the ‘Marriage Story’ star previously stated, “We met through friends in Paris. It was very romantic. And we became friends. When I’d come back to Paris I would see him. We started dating. He tells me that he learned English in one night!" She further told US Magazine, "‘I barely spoke English when we met,’ he said. I don’t remember that at all. I felt like we were [always] talking the same language. Maybe it was the language of love.”
A year after they were first spotted together, Johansson and Dauriac got engaged in what some dubbed a "whirlwind romance." The couple continued their romance while dividing their time between New York and Paris. In 2014, Johansson surprised the world with happy news as she revealed that she was pregnant with their daughter. Later that year, the pair welcomed Rose and decided to exchange vows in a very private ceremony in Philipsburg, Montana that October.
Why Scarlett Johansson ended marriage with Romain Dauriac
Johansson always tried to keep her family life private but in 2016 many sources claimed that she had ended her marriage with Dauriac. The reports turned out to be true as Johansson filed for divorce shortly after, claiming that the marriage was "irretrievably broken." At the time, a source claimed that “she felt like they didn’t have much in common as far as lifestyle.” However, the divorce process became tumultuous, and a custody struggle over Rose began. When Johansson filed for divorce, she requested shared and primary custody, but Dauriac objected since he had become Rose's carer while she worked, according to the Thing.
Dauric's lawyer publicly claimed that Johansson's expectations were unreasonable, considering she is an A-list actress who is continuously working on new blockbusters. Dauriac was surprised by the divorce. His lawyer Hal Mayerson said Dauriac was "shocked" and "viewed it as a pre-emptive strike in a potential custody battle." During the legal battle, Johansson released a statement that said she'd never talk about her divorce publicly. Their divorce was finalized in 2017, as was their custody struggle. They are now raising Rose without any difficulty. The couple issued a joint statement in which they stated that their first concern was raising Rose in a safe atmosphere.
