MANHATTAN, NEW YORK: Whoopi Goldberg believes that the discussion on Twitter about Mel Brooks' 1974 satirical western movie 'Blazing Saddles' is going a little too far. 'The View' panelists had a conversation about how classic sitcoms would fare in 2022 after 'The Office' star Mindy Kaling speculated that the beloved series would be deemed "inappropriate" by the new-age audience.

When responding to people who believe 'Blazing Saddles' - a politician who employs a Black sheriff to supervise a troubled community - goes too far with its satire of racism, Goldberg particularly mentioned how the film dealt with racism. “It deals with racism by coming at it right, straight, out front, making you think and laugh about it, because, listen, it’s not just racism, it’s all the -isms, he hits all the -isms,” Goldberg said of Brooks’ film. “‘Blazing Saddles,’ because it’s a great comedy, would still go over today.”

Birthday girl Whoopi Goldberg asked if she’s a 'freak in the sheets' during NSFW discussion on 'The View'

The 'Ghost' Oscar winner continued, “There are a lot of comedies that are not good, OK? We’re just going to say that. That’s not one of them. ‘Blazing Saddles’ is one of the greatest because it hits everybody. If you’ve never seen ‘Blazing Saddles,’ you should do yourself a favor, get some popcorn, get a glass of wine, and put it on, because it’s magnificent," she said, reported Indiewire. She concluded, “Leave my ‘Blazing Saddles’ alone. Don’t make me come for you!”

The panel discussion was held following Kaling's statement on how 'The Office' would be considered "inappropriate" by modern standards. “The writers who I’m still in touch with now, we always talk about how so much of that show we probably couldn’t make now,” former staff writer and star Kaling said on 'Good Morning America,' adding, “Tastes have changed, and honestly what offends people has changed so much now…Most of the characters on that show would be canceled by now.”

'Even Whoopi gets it right once in a while'

Meanwhile, people were quick to respond to Whoopi's defense on 'Blazing Saddles', with one tweeting, "Even Whoopi gets it right once in a while." Another chimed in, "She’s just trying to stay relevant even though she isn’t." "Yeah, well blazing saddles is still a f**kin classic and comedic gold, so on this, irrelevant to anything else, she is correct," said another.
