Who is Danielle Maltby?
Danielle Maltby first appeared on Bachelor Nation as a contestant in the 21st season, while Nick Viall was the lead. She made it through seven weeks of the season before being booted following a tense dinner date. The woman later appeared in 'BiP' Season 4, where she had a brief relationship with Wells Adams. Danielle departed the show just two weeks after it premiered. The show, on the other hand, brought her friendship, which cleared the path for Danielle to attend Wells' wedding with Sarah Hyland in 2022. Danielle's return to ABC's 'Bachelor in Paradise' has created quite a stir among viewers.
Danielle's real job outside of television is as a licensed nurse. She works as a cosmetic surgery nurse at Image Surgical Arts. She previously worked as a nurse in the newborn critical care unit for 12 years, which inspired her to start her podcast, 'The WoMed,' which is a general discussion and debate on all things relating to women and medicine.
Who was Danielle Maltby engaged to?
Danielle has spoken out about the untimely death of her fiancé, singer Nick Haag, over the years. Danielle first mentioned her late fiancé during her time on the 'Bachelor's 21st season. Her six-year relationship with Nick Haag ended when he died in 2011 in Wisconsin from a potential drug overdose. He was 29. In a 2017 episode, she stated that she found him overdosed and had no clue he was an addict. Daniele was 32 when she lost her fiancé, and she was distraught. She joined the reality show to fill the awful vacuum left by Nick Haag. On the show, the blonde beauty discussed Nick during a one-on-one date.
"I found him, I did CPR, I called 911 — so there’s so much trauma around that situation," Danielle explained to Michael (whose wife Laura died of cancer) on their first date during Season 8 of 'Paradise'. She added that she believes Nick would prefer for her to be in a secure relationship, and that she adores the person she's become as a result of years of hard work and recovery.
As the episode progressed, Danielle and Michael learned that, while they'd never met in person before 'Bachelor in Paradise,' they did have a prior social media friendship and a very similar history. Danielle's fiancé Nick died of a drug overdose, and Michael's late wife Laura died of cancer, thus the two could sympathize on a deep level.
"I lost my fiancé about 11 years ago, and you had posted something — maybe it was an anniversary post or something — and I was like, ‘Hey, as someone from the franchise…we have some things in common if you ever need anyone to talk to,'" Danielle said. Later in the episode, she also told Michael that the chance to see him in person is what drew her to go on the show.
Danielle and Michael kissed after a wonderful evening that included champagne on a boat, exploring Mexico, and emotional heart-to-hearts. A piece of both Laura and Nick still exist within the love that we could possibly share," he told the cameras. "Maybe it’s the last first date of my life."
New episodes of 'Bachelor in Paradise' air Mondays and Tuesdays at 8.00 pm ET on ABC. Hulu now offers next-day viewing of episodes.
