'Steel Magnolias' star Carol Sutton died on Thursday, December 10, after suffering from Covid-19. New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell confirmed the late star's death in a statement. Even though Sutton had a glamourous professional life, she always kept her personal life very private.

The statement released by Cantrell reads, "Carol Sutton was practically the Queen of New Orleans theater, having graced the stages across the city for decades. The world may recognize her from her performances in movies and on TV — whether it's 'Treme' or 'Claws,' or 'Runaway Jury' or 'Queen Sugar' — but we will always remember her commanding stage presence, her richly portrayed characters, and the warm heart she shared with her fellow cast and crew in productions such as '4000 Miles' and 'A Raisin in the Sun'. May she rest in God's perfect peace." The statement further reads, "Carol Sutton died of complications from Covid-19. Her death comes just days after the passing of another major New Orleans theater figure, Sherri Marina, also due to COVID-19."

Carol began her career in the late 1960s in Dashiki Project Theatre productions in New Orleans. Later, she directed several Dashiki productions. Carol made her big screen debut in 1974 with 'The Autobiography of Miss Jade Pittman'. Besides her role on 'Steel Magnolias', Carol also found herself in plenty of other well-known films including 'Ray' and 'The Help'. According to Net Worth Roll, her net worth is about $55.6M.

Carol was born on December 3, 1944, in New Orleans, Louisiana, as Carol Dickerson. She enrolled at Xavier University but later dropped out to marry Archie Sutton. They eventually divorced but the couple kept their personal life updates very private. Sutton is survived by her son, Archie Sutton Jr of Houston; a daughter, Aunya Sutton of New Orleans; a brother, Oris Buckner of Houston; a sister, Adrienne Jopes of Houston; and five grandchildren.

Her husband Archie Michael Sutton was born on November 2, 1941, and died at the age of 73 on August 29, 2015. He was a professional footballer who played offensive tackle for three seasons for the Minnesota Vikings. Sutton found early fame as a tackle playing for the Illini alongside center, Dick Butkus; offensive guard, LD Stewart, and running back, Jim Grabowski.
