LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Sonja Norwood, a prominent figure in the entertainment industry and the mother of singer and reality TV star Ray J, recently found herself in a medical emergency when a home IV drip gave her an unexpected reaction.

According to IMDb, born on December 5, 1950, in McComb, Mississippi, Norwood is recognized as a producer and talent agent, best known for her appearances on reality TV shows like 'For the Love of Ray J'.

Sonja has been married to Willie Norwood since September 3, 1976, and they share two children, one of whom is the well-known artist Ray J.

Her condition stabilized, and she is now in recovery, according to reports.

The health scare began when Sonja Norwood opted for a home IV drip, a popular health and wellness trend among celebrities, designed to deliver essential vitamins and nutrients directly into the bloodstream, according to TMZ.

However, things took an unexpected turn when she started feeling light-headed during the IV therapy session. Concerned about her condition, her family, including her son Ray J, decided to call an ambulance for assistance.

The sudden onset of rapid breathing prompted the medical emergency response. She was immediately taken to the hospital for evaluation and treatment.

As per reports, the IV therapy she received was a mixture of essential vitamins and minerals, including vitamin C and vitamin B, as well as calcium and magnesium.

While these treatments are intended to boost a patient's immune system and provide various health benefits, they can sometimes lead to adverse reactions. Potential side effects of vitamin drips include infection, skin rashes, blood clots, and air embolisms, among others.

Past incidents caution about possible reactions as the popularity of IV drip therapy soar

It's important to note that this is not the first time a public figure has experienced health issues related to IV vitamin drips. In 2018, model and television personality Kendall Jenner was hospitalized due to a severe reaction to a similar treatment.

Sonia Patel, PharmD, Chief Pharmacist at Capsule, an online pharmacy based in New York City, explained that reactions can occur with vitamin drips because they bypass organs that typically serve as the body's defense mechanisms, as per W Magazine

She clarified that "a vitamin drip is a dose of vitamins that’s slowly infused into your body through a needle in your arm," and because these nutrients bypass the digestive system, they can lead to more concentrated and rapid effects.

However, they also bypass organs like the liver, which can increase the risk of allergic reactions if the drip contains harmful additives, herbs, or an excessive dose of nutrients.

While reactions to vitamin drips are rare, the incident with Sonja Norwood serves as a reminder that such treatments can have unexpected consequences.

In some cases, it may be safer to obtain essential nutrients from more traditional sources, like vitamin supplements. It's crucial to consult with healthcare professionals and ensure that any IV therapy is well-regulated and monitored to prevent potential health risks.
