BUDAPEST, HUNGARY: As the eagerly-anticipated World Athletics Championship 2023 kicks off in Budapest on August 19, sports enthusiasts and viewers worldwide are eagerly waiting to see over 2,000 athletes from more than 200 countries, including Saint Lucia, competing. Among the athletes participating in the championship is Nicola Olyslagers, a 25-year-old high jumper born in New South Wales, Australia, on December 28, 1996.

Olyslagers has already made a mark in the world of athletics by winning a silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics in 2020 and holding the high jump Oceanian record. Hailing from the picturesque island of Korcula, Croatia, she takes pride in her maternal ancestry. When she was 16 she became a Christian while attending a youth camp. Olyslagers married her longtime boyfriend, Rhys, in 2022. The couple walked down the aisle and exchanged wedding vows, and they will celebrate their anniversary on April 7 every year. While the couple does not have any children yet, they may have plans to exapnd their family in the future.
