DUBLIN, IRELAND: Mark Sheehan, the guitarist of The Script, died tragically at the age of 46, leaving behind his grieving wife and their three children. They had been married for 17 years. After a brief illness, Sheehan died on Friday, April 14, in a hospital, allegedly leaving his bandmates "utterly devastated."

Just two weeks after the Irish band's most recent gig became public, his shocking passing was announced on the group's official Facebook page. Their statement read, "Much loved husband, father, brother, band mate and friend Mark Sheehan passed away today in hospital after a brief illness. The family and group ask fans to respect their privacy at this tragic time." The band was formed in 2001 by the star guitarist and soon rose to fame with drummer Glen Power and frontman Danny O'Donoghue, selling 20 million records, reports the Daily Mail.

Who is Mark Sheehan's wife?

Late guitarist Mark was married to Texas-born Rina Sheehan. The couple got together while Mark was working in the US. In the early 2000s, when the celebrity had traveled to the US to write and record music, Mark first encountered Rina, an American backup singer. The two met on the road when Rina was hired to sing backup while Mark worked in the studios. In 2008, Mark stated to the Irish Mirror, "Rina is from Texas, we met on the road. I was producing and working in different studios. We just kind of clicked in the usual way you do. We got married three years ago."

After getting married in private in 2005, they welcomed their first child, Cameron, in 2008, followed by Avery and Lil. The couple had been married for over 17 years and had always been concerned about protecting the privacy of their kids. Sheehan took a break from the band in 2021 and skipped almost a full year of shows to get to dedicate more time to his family. Lead vocalist Danny O'Donoghue, 42, said at the time that "his children needed a father and his wife needed a husband."

The father of three led a very secluded life in America with his wife Rina and their three children, avoiding the limelight. Sheehan had a private life outside of the band, taking care of and protecting his family from the popularity that The Script offered. Rina and the couple's children received a personal letter of sympathy from Irish President Michael D Higgins. He praised the late musician in a lengthy statement, calling him an "outstanding" example of Irish "musical success" worldwide.
