Ken Yang, the owner of Queens Chinese restaurant, has slammed a Queen's court for releasing Glenn Hirsch, 51, the killer of the restaurant's 45-year-old delivery man, Zhiwen Yan, on $500,000 bail. Yan was killed last year in a dispute over duck sauce. Yang says he’s now “living in fear" and worries that murder suspect Hirsch will come after him and his staff.

“I am extremely disappointed that the court allowed the defendant to be bailed,” Yang said in a text message to The New York Post. “Everyone [who] works in Great Wall restaurant is living in fear now, and also the families of Zhiwen Yan, who couldn’t believe the suspect will be back to our community again.” “Even though the suspect will not be as free as before, we still [have] concern that there might be some kind of revenge happened [sic],” he said. “Therefore I desperately hope the law enforcement departments could protect us, protect our community. “He is a clear and present danger to the entire Forest Hills community,” he added.

“Why is he allowed to be out on bail? He is a threat to the community", Yang added. The owner also emphasized the fact that the restaurant is still taking orders and doing deliveries and he can never know if he could be among those calling.

“I don’t know [who] is putting [in] the orders,” he said. “It could be him. If he calls he won’t say it’s him calling."

“After the arrest people came to support me with orders,” he added. “Now they don’t come to my restaurant because they are scared. They don’t want to come to our restaurant. “I need the police to help me, to protect. If police are not here my staff are scared, they don’t want to work,” he said. “We are scared. It is not safe. He should be in jail so police don’t have to invest in protecting us. “

Hirsch is accused of shooting Yan dead after a food delivery — the deadly outcome of a five-month-old beef with the eatery over duck sauce. Authorities said Hirsh was enraged when he received a pickup order from Great Wall in November that didn’t come with enough duck sauce. Cops arrested him on June 1, 2022, and charged him with murder and weapons possession.

Hirsch was freed Monday, June 27, after his brother put up his $500,000 bail. In court, Queens Supreme Court Justice Kenneth Holder cautioned Hirsch to adhere to strict guidelines of his release, which include monitoring by an ankle bracelet and restrictions on where he can go in the Big Apple. “Anywhere you go that is outside your apartment is going to be restricted in terms of the time that you leave, the time that you remain out, and the time that you return,” Holder told Hirsch.

“You go outside of the area, the location, if you end up in Manhattan, other areas of Queens, if you end up in Brooklyn or anywhere except a direct route to where you’re supposed to go, the sheriff’s department will pick you up and bring you back before me and I will remind you,” the judge said. “And no matter how much money you have, you will not be coming out of jail until this case is over,” Holder added.
