DALLAS, TEXAS: Karen Attiah is an American writer and editor currently in the spotlight due to a controversy surrounding a tweet that appeared to support Hamas’ violence.

As the Global Opinions editor for The Washington Post, Attiah is recognized for her fervent commentary on issues of race, religion, and gender. Her portfolio also extends to international affairs, with a particular focus on Africa. 

Megyn Kelly has criticized the 37-year-old columnist for being a "rabid antisemite" due to her support for a pro-Hamas tweet.

Controversy surrounding Karen Attiah and the pro-Hamas tweet

The controversy was ignited when Karen Attiah, who was born in North Central Texas to a Nigerian-Ghanaian mother and a Ghanaian father, showed her support for a tweet by freelance journalist Najma Sharif.

"What did y’all think decolonization meant? vibes? papers? essays? losers," wrote Sherrif who has 42,200 followers. 

The tweet in question seemed to condone the severe violence perpetrated by Hamas in their quest to supplant Israel with an Islamic state.

Sharif’s tweet suggested that the bloodshed in Israel, which has led to over 1,200 Israeli fatalities, was simply a necessary means to achieve their end, per the New York Post.

Megyn Kelly slams Karen Attiah for liking pro-Hamas tweet

Reacting to the pro-Hamas tweet controversy, SiriusXM host Megyn Kelly labeled Attiah as a "rabid antisemite."

Kelly expressed her shock in a post, stating, "It’s truly shocking to see ppl like @KarenAttiah of @washingtonpost – who regularly posts pics of her cat & her workouts- reveal themselves as rabid antisemites who think decapitating Israeli babies is A-ok in the name of “decolonization” & that you are a “loser” if you disagree."

How did the public react to the pro-Hamas tweet dispute?

This event has ignited a public discussion, with numerous people claiming Sharif supports war crimes and accusing Attiah of damaging The Washington Post’s reputation.

Attiah and Sharif have taken measures to protect their social media accounts in response to the controversy. 

Brent Scher who described himself as "Investigations editor @realDailyWire" on X, formerly known as Twitter wrote, "Unbelievable. @KarenAttiah locks down her account after claiming she didn't actually celebrate the Hamas attacks as "decolonization".

A user on X responded to Kelly's tweet saying, "My opinion of the Washington post was low, but damn."

"She’s locked her tweets down the coward," commented another. One person also said, "She went into hiding real quick."

One user noted, "Maybe her job can be decolonized." A sixth person also said, "Shocking is one word to describe it. Also truly sickening that people have these views."
