Pique, who has since started dating the model Clara Chia Marti, later denied rumors of an affair, saying there was "no infidelity on his part." The former pair, according to Spanish broadcaster Jose Antonio Aviles, had a three-year open relationship that was mutually agreeable until their split. Aviles claimed that they had an understanding where "you do what you want and I do what I want, but in the face of the media, we are still a couple," according to El Nacional de Catalunya.

Apparently, the couple was on the verge of splitting, with sources saying Pique had cheated on the celebrity, as per Spanish tabloids. El Periodico, a Spanish news outlet, even claimed that the pair had been living apart for weeks following the pop star's eviction of him from the family home. Both parties avoided discussing allegations of cheating, although journalist Emilio Perez reported, "(Shakira) has made the decision to separate. That is so. It has happened. That is why there is distance. Perhaps there is nothing left, but that (infidelity) has passed."
'Not like a regular separation'
When her romance with the soccer player ended, Shakira subsequently discussed how challenging her life had been in an interview for the October 2022 issue of ELLE magazine. She expressed, "Oh, this is really hard to talk about personally, especially as this is the first time I've ever addressed this situation in an interview. I've remained quiet and just tried to process it all. Um, and yeah, it's hard to talk about it, especially because I'm still going through it, and because I'm in the public eye and because our separation is not like a regular separation." "And so it's been tough not only for me, but also for my kids. Incredibly difficult," added the 'Hips Don't Lie' singer, who was in a relationship with Pique for 11 years.
