Who is Bert Newton's wife?

Bert is survived by his wife Patti, children and grandkids. Bert and his 76-year-old wife were married for around five decades. They were famously called Australia's golden couple. The pair met when they were radio child stars. Later, they began working together at Channel Seven.

They remained in touch in their younger days and when Patti invited Bert to her 21st birthday party, he knew that she’s the one. “I was working on the QE11 in 1974 43 years ago. Bert surprised me and got on board and asked me to marry him. A wonderful Australia Day and the best thing I ever did xx,” she shared on her Instagram page in 2017.

After marriage, the lovely couple welcomed two children -- 40-year-old Lauren, and 44-year-old Matthew, and six grandkids, while being each other’s rock in every situation, including the late quadruple Gold Logie-winning entertainer's leg amputation. Patti once told Now To Love, “We lived and worked everything that was happening on television, we've spent a lot of time together. If anything happens to either of us, whichever one it is will find it very difficult because we've been in one another's pockets for well over 50 years.”

Also, in 2015, she told Woman's Day: “I think we have a great relationship because we're not always in each other's pocket,” before adding, “I think you have to have a good sense of humour, that's something I do have, I'm always ribbing him about something. I know that he doesn't do the dishwasher very well, but the reason I know that is because if he did do it well, I'd ask him to do it more.”

Bert had his leg amputated in May 2021, which was reportedly a “life or death” decision. After which, Ford said, “The way they see it, Bert had a choice. He wants to stick around, he loves his wife, his kids, his grandkids he just adores, so he wants to be around for as long as possible to enjoy that. But life going to be quite different from now on.”

Meanwhile, fans of Bert flooded Twitter with tributary messages and condolences. A tweet read, “What a legend Bert was. My early memories were of him and Don Lane. What a side kick he was on that show. I would have been all if about 8-10 but gee I loved that show. An absolute star when they really were stars. Rest In Peace, Bert.” Another stated, “I’m so sad to hear this news. Sincere condolences to Patti, Lauren, Matt and families. Bert was not only an icon but a beautiful, funny, talented and generous man. I will really miss him and will forever cherish the times we shared. RIP Bert. Thank you for the memories.”

“RIP Mr Bert Newton. Deepest condolences to his beloved Patti and family. My mum met him one day. She was a cleaner. She told him I loved watching him on tv. He asked for our address and he sent me an autographed book. A genuine and kind man,” a user added.

TV Personality Bert Newton and Patti Newton are seen at the public memorial service held for actor Rob Guest at the Regent Theatre on October 13, 2008 in Melbourne, Australia. The late actor, best known for playing the role of the Phantom of the Opera for the longest run of any actor, died on October 2 following a massive stroke.
