DALLAS, TEXAS: Brittney Griner was heckled by conservative YouTuber Alex Stein at Dallas' Fort Worth Airport on Saturday, 10 June. The confrontation revolved around a prisoner swap, where Griner was freed after smuggling weed into Moscow, in exchange for a notorious arms dealer being handed over to Russia.

Stein said, "Hey Britt, do you still wanna... do you still wanna boycott America? What about the Merchant of Death, Brittney?" Griner maintained her composure and did not directly respond to the heckling. However, a member of her group could be heard referring to Stein as a "weirdo". To prevent any escalation, a male security guard intervened and prevented further interaction between the two.

Brittney Griner faced legal trouble in Moscow for weed possession

In February 2022, Griner encountered legal trouble when she was found in possession of hash oil cartridges at Moscow airport. This incident occurred when she came to Russia to join a women's basketball team and participate in the Russian Premier League.

Stein's questions were related to Griner's earlier statement that athletes should not be obliged to stand for the national anthem before games. In 2020, she decided to cease standing, inspired by George Floyd's tragic murder. However, she has since reconsidered her position and returned to standing for the national anthem. She was released in exchange for the 'Merchant of Death', Viktor Bout, a notorious arms dealer who was arrested in the United States for his involvement in fueling severe conflicts worldwide. As part of a prisoner swap, Bout was released and transported to Russia via a private jet, in exchange for Griner's liberation.
