LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: A pink wool overcoat with black embroidery that Kate Winslet wore in the movie 'Titanic' is up for grabs in an online auction.

The coat, which was worn by Winslet’s character Rose during the scenes of the ship’s sinking, is reportedly expected to fetch more than $100,000.

Who designed Kate Winslet's 'Titanic' overcoat?

The auction is being conducted by Goldin, an NJ-based collectables auctioneer and will run until September 13. The coat is part of Goldin 100, a collection of rare and valuable items that are worth at least $100,000 each, the New York Post reported.

The coat was designed by Deborah Lynn Scott who won the Oscar for Best Costume Design for her work on the James Cameron film. Scott created the coat based on the style of the early 20th century when the Titanic sailed and sank.

The coat still has water stains from the filming, which add to its authenticity and appeal, the publication noted.

Kate Winslet's 'Titanic' overcoat was first sold by 20th Century Fox in 1998 to J Peterman Company

The coat was sold by the film’s production company, 20th Century Fox, in 1998, along with other props from the movie. The coat was bought by a clothing retailer called the J Peterman Company, which made replicas of the coat based on Scott’s design.

The company also provided a letter of authenticity from themselves and 20th Century Fox, confirming that the coat was worn by Winslet in the movie. The current owner of the coat bought it in the early 2000s from the previous owner, who had kept it for several years.

The owner then hired a company called Resolution Photomatching, which specializes in matching worn items with photos of the person wearing them. The company verified that the coat was the exact same one that Winslet wore in the movie.

Ken Goldin says the coat will go for $100,000 plus

Ken Goldin, founder and CEO of Goldin, told the New York Post that the coat is a “six-figure piece” and that it will go for “$100,000 plus”. He said that there are already five bidders for the coat with the highest bid being $34,000 as of Friday night.

Goldin said that the potential buyers could be anyone who is interested in movie memorabilia, pop culture or 'Titanic'. He also suggested that someone might want to buy the coat as a gift for their wife and let her wear it as a statement piece.

“It is an overcoat, so possibly somebody may want it to give it to their wife to show off and wear and say, ‘This is the coat that Kate Winslet wore,’” he said.
