LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: One of the sons of late Motown legend Marvin Gaye is reportedly being investigated for assault after he allegedly threatened his cousin with a gun in his Los Angeles home and fled in his Corvette before the police arrived. According to law enforcement officials, sheriff deputies arrived at the late hitmaker’s son Marvin Gaye III's Calabasas home following a complaint about a "family dispute" at 8.05 PM on Thursday, January 12. 

Marvin Gaye III allegedly got into a confrontation with his wife and cousin over an alleged prior assault, though specifics were not made clear, according to TMZ. Marvin allegedly drew a revolver on his cousin after the argument got out of hand. Deputies arrived at the scene and asked Marvin Gaye III to come outside because they believed he was still inside the house, but neighbors informed them that he had already left. Deputies talked to Marvin's family members and recorded an assault report. No arrest was made and the investigation is still ongoing.

Who was Marvin Gaye?

Popular singer Marvin Pentz Gay Jr was born in Washington, DC, on April 2, 1939, to parents Marvin Gay Sr and Alberta Gay. According to Biography.com, the “e” was added to his last name at a very late stage. Marvin Gaye was known as the Prince of Soul and the Prince of Motown is credited with helping define the sound of Motown music. 

Gaye had a love for music at a young age and began singing in his father's church at the age of 4. He eventually joined a few vocal groups, such as Harvey and the New Moonglows and The Marquees. The New Moonglows split up in 1960, and Gaye relocated to Detroit. He had the chance to play in front of Berry Gordy Jr, the head of Motown Records, and the music executive was impressed by his slick voice. Gordy then signed him to a contract.

Who are Marvin Gaye’s children? 

Gaye started dating Anna Gordy, the older sister of Gordy. The couple got married in 1963, but a decade later, they separated and filed for divorce in 1975. In 1977, he married Janis Hunter, his mistress and the daughter of jazz singer Slim Gaillard. They separated in 1979 and divorced in 1981.

Gaye had three children from his two marriages: Marvin Gaye III, Frankie Gaye, and Nona Gaye. Marvin Gaye III was born to Anna Gordy’s sister, Denise in 1965. Gaye also welcomed two of his other children with Hunter. - Nona in 1974 followed by Frankie in 1975.
