Eternal Sunshine vs Deja Vu: Ateez makes fans vote for 'Fever Part 3' title track

Ateez shows us where to vote for ‘Fever Part 3’ title tracks, the scales are tipping towards ‘Deja Vu’ at the moment

Remember the chaos during ‘Wave’ era when Ateez made Atinys choose the title track? Fans were torn as both ‘Illusion’ and ‘Wave’ were summer bops. But the fun that everyone had, had Ateez repeating the title track voting again last year for ‘Inception’ and ‘Thanxx’. And it looks like it has become a tradition. For their upcoming album ‘Fever Part 3’, the K-pop group wants us to choose between 'Eternal Sunshine’ and ‘Deja Vu’ for the title track.

While it is not a common sight in the West with albums going digital, K-pop still makes use of the title tracks and b-side format from the times of cassettes and CDs. It is also a marketing strategy as the label spends more resources on the title tracks. These title tracks act as representatives of the album and are used to promote on music shows and interviews. It is also a clever way to attract new fans and listeners who do not want to commit and listen to the whole album.

Where to vote for the title track

Ateez has teamed up with MyMusicTaste and Whosfan where everyone can vote for their favorite title track. There are two rounds. Round A gives us a 1 minute 30-second preview of the songs and Atinys can vote from August 31, 9 am KST (August 30, 8 pm ET) to September 3 8:59 am KST (September 2, 7:59 pm ET). In Round Z, we get a dance performance video preview of the two songs. Fans can then vote in Round Z from September 3, 9 am KST (September 2, 8 pm ET) to September 6, 8:59 am KST (September 5, 7:59 pm ET). The YouTube views of the audio and performance previews will also make up for 5% of the votes.

On September 6 at 9 am KST (September 5 at 8 pm ET), the Ateez members will pick their favorite and we will get hints as to who has picked what. And the chosen title track will be revealed on September 13 at 12 am KST (September 12 at 11 pm KST).

‘Eternal Sunshine’ is a tropical pop song with a fun and upbeat rhythm. Ateez also spoiled the chorus which is dramatic and melodic like a pop ballad. ‘Deja Vu’ is darker with hip-hop and trap sounds as wind instruments make up the arrangement. Both songs show off Ateez’s dynamic range as they have proven time and again that they can excel in any genre. However, at the moment, the scales are tipping towards the eerie ‘Deja Vu’, since Atinys have always loved Ateez’s intense and fierce songs.

Audio previews

Fans loved that Ateez is still continuing with the pirate journey storyline as we see two Cromers (hourglasses) underwater surrounded by treasure chests in the audio previews.

Concept photos

Ateez also released two sets of concept photos, one for each potential title track. Like the bubbly ‘Eternal Sunshine’ melody, the concept for it is bright and refreshing with a vibrant color palette. However, the concept photos for ‘Deja Vu’ is significantly darker and creepier as the boys are fitted in blue leather outfits and are half-submerged in water.

The boys also had a photoshoot and interview with Singles magazine where they spoke about their motivations, how they’ve changed since their debut and their interests.

'This is so fun'

‘Eternal Sunshine’ and ‘Deja Vu’, as well as #TheKpopElection, have been trending on Twitter all morning since fans can’t decide which track to pick. Many Atinys posted exasperated reaction memes like, “Me: I prefer deja vu me as soon as eternal sunshine plays:.” One fan pointed out, “Even ktinys votes dejavu more than eternal sunshine.” An ‘Eternal Sunshine’ fan was sad that there were very few, “Eternal sunshine enthusiasts on the tl.” An Atiny couldn’t believe that the boys spoiled ‘Deja Vu’ at the Fact Music Awards 2020, “THIS WAS DEJA VU?????” One fan tried to compromise, “HEAR ME OUT! vote eternal sunshine as the title track so they'll promote deja vu later (around october, HALLOWEEN!!) and it'll match the spooky-ness/change of seasons!” Another loved the previews, “I feel like I’m on a journey as a pirate crew and now the mission is to choose which Cromer will lead me to the next stop and what awaits me there im skek this is so fun.”
