Brittany Murphy’s tragic death has been a matter of debate for over a decade now. The ‘8 Mile’ actress endured a lot in her final days, owing to a stalled career and health issues, which was named the primary cause of her death. However, the events that occurred following her demise in 2009 raised eyebrows and continue to leave us puzzled to date. One of them was the death of Britanny's husband Simon Monjack, who died in a similar manner in less than a year since his wife's passing.

Besides Brittany and Monjack, it was only her mother Sharon Murphy who was present in their Hollywood Hills mansion and made the frantic 911 phone call when the actress was found lying dead. Endless speculations surrounding Sharon's alleged involvement in Brittany and Monjack's deaths started making rounds, one of which even suggested that she shared a bed with her son-in-law.

When Brittany's biological father Angelo Bertolotti struggled to accept his daughter's death and couldn’t come to believe that she had died of natural causes, he requested her death to be investigated further, alleging that Sharon had poisoned their daughter. However, the results from a range of tests conducted on Brittany's hair strand established that she died of "natural causes".

Where is Sharon now?

Besides underlying issues, the presence of a certain kind of mold in Brittany's mansion was termed as the potential cause of both the deaths that occurred in their home. In 2011, Sharon filed a lawsuit against her attornies for advising her to accept a settlement from builders over defects in the home but dropped it two years later. The same year, she sold the mansion which Brittany died in for $2.7 million. It was purchased by the actress in 2003 for $3.9 million from Britney Spears.

Sharon was last in the news for writing an open letter to Hollywood Reporter in 2013 to address Bertolotti's accusations against her, following which she stayed away from the limelight and refused to comment on Brittany’s controversial death.

What was her relationship like with her daughter?

Sharon in her open letter mentioned that she brought up Brittany as a single mother and the two always stood by each other through thick and thin. She wrote, "I raised Brittany alone. We didn't have much at first, but we always had each other. My daughter and I were our only family, and we were inseparable and always there for each other in good times and bad. She never left my side as I battled cancer twice, and I was there for her through the trials and tribulations of her beautiful life and career."

“She was my baby, and we stood together throughout Brittany's life. Now I must stand up for her again,” she added towards the end of her note. However, Brittany shared a rather "unusually close relationship" with her mother, according to Hollywood Reporter. The report further stated, "They referred to each other as 'soulmates'." Apparently, Brittany put her career on hold twice when her mother was battling breast cancer and "camped out in her mom's hospital room".

Whether or not Sharon was involved in the death of her daughter will continue to haunt us. In her open letter, commenting on the uncertainty surrounding Brittany’s death she wrote, "We will never know for sure. However, we do know the Los Angeles County Coroner did extensive tests and found that she died of natural causes. And now she is a real living angel in heaven."
