What happened to Brendan Santo? Michigan teen goes missing after visiting friends

Michigan State University Police are have launched a manhunt for an 18-year-old Grand Valley State University student, Brendan Santo, 18, who has been missing since Friday, October 29. Santo, who is from the Detroit area, was visiting his friends at Michigan State University last week and was last seen leaving Yakeley Hall shortly before midnight, walking on campus. A press release from police suggests that he possibly intended to walk about half a mile to the Brody neighborhood.

There is no indication that Santo left the East Lansing area and his vehicle is still parked where he last left it. "To enhance our search efforts, resources from other state and local law enforcement agencies have been utilized. Michigan State Police and the Ingham County Sheriff’s Office are providing assistance with specialized units. Our operation has included searches conducted on foot, by helicopter, by drone and boat," the press release says. The investigation has included interviewing everyone who last had contact or spoke with Brendan, a review of surveillance cameras, and advanced techniques such as reviewing cellular, smartphone, and GPS data.

Michigan State University Police and Public Safety took to Facebook to post about Santo's disappearance. "Brendan was last seen leaving Yakeley Hall on Friday, October 29th shortly before midnight. He is not a student at Michigan State University and was visiting friends and may have been walking to the Brody Neighborhood," the post reads. "We are aware of the vehicle that Brendan was driving and we know the current location of that vehicle. Brendan was last seen walking on campus and we do not believe that he has left the East Lansing area."



 

A spokesperson for Grand Valley State University issued a statement, saying: Officials from GVSU and MSU have been in continual contact beginning this weekend. President Mantella has spoken to the Santo family to express the university’s concern and care, and our housing and counseling staffs have been working with Brendan’s roommates and friends. The Grand Valley Police Department and the Michigan State Police are remaining in close touch as the search continues. This is obviously a stressful time, and our hearts are with those closest to Brendan."

Brendan is 5’10”, 160 pounds and was last seen wearing gray sweatpants, a black t-shirt, a black baseball hat, and white Converse high-top shoes. If you have any information please call toll-free at 844-99-MSUPD.
