Sources have ruled out the possibility of foul play or an overdose and the apparent cause of death seems to have been drowning.
Both Perry and Trudeau attended Rockcliffe Park Elementary, a public school in Ottawa, during their childhood.
The late actor’s mother, Suzanne Morrison, was press secretary to Pierre Trudeau, the former Canadian Prime Minister and father of Justin Trudeau.
What did the Canadian Prime Minister say?
Justin Trudeau took to X (formerly Twitter) to share childhood memories with his former school friend.
Matthew Perry’s passing is shocking and saddening. I’ll never forget the schoolyard games we used to play, and I know people around the world are never going to forget the joy he brought them. Thanks for all the laughs, Matthew. You were loved – and you will be missed.

Matthew Perry recalled beating up PM Justin Trudeau
During an appearance on 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!' in 2017, Perry recounted his childhood memory of physically attacking the future Prime Minister with a friend in fifth grade.
“We both beat him up. I think he was excelling in a sport that we weren’t, so it was pure jealousy," Perry explained his actions on the talk show at the time.
"I think he was the only kid in school that we could beat up. ... I’m not bragging about this. This is terrible. I was a stupid kid. I didn’t want to beat him up,” Matthew shared.
