When will ‘Disclosure Day’ release? Steven Spielberg's latest sci-fi trailer features an insane cast
Over the years, veteran director Steven Spielberg's name has come to be virtually synonymous with blockbuster extraterrestrial epics that skillfully blend progressive elements of science fiction with the perfect amount of conspiracy speculation.
With hits like 'Close Encounters of the Third Kind,' 'E.T.' and 'War of the Worlds' to his credit, Spielberg is now ready to present his latest film, poised to spark debate over extraterrestrial life once again. The film is titled 'Disclosure Day,' and Universal recently dropped the first full-length trailer for the upcoming sci-fi film that stars Josh O'Connor, Colin Firth, Eve Hewson, and Emily Blunt in the leading roles.
The trailer begins with O'Connor's character, who is a Cybersecurity Administrator, expressing his moral dilemma to Hewson. He has stolen classified government secrets and is in possession of them. Although he was paid to protect these secrets, he is now on the verge of revealing them to the public.
The reason? The magnitude of the secrets is so grave that they could change the world's established status quo once and for all. On the other hand, the ominous 'Ward EX' headed by Firth is persistently tracking O'Connor, who prominently shows up on their radar. Looking into a laptop screen after O'Connor reveals the contents of his stolen files, Hewson remarks in disbelief, "Are they people?"
Elsewhere, Blunt is seen as a weather news presenter. During a regular news broadcast, she fumbles and seems overtaken by an alien consciousness. She then speaks in strange tongues unknown to humans, which come across as gibberish.
Audiences from all over the nation tune in to her broadcast, staring in horror and disbelief. It is subsequently revealed that only O'Connor's character can make sense of what Blunt is saying. There are several flashes in the trailer that refer to the Roswell incident.
Moreover, O'Connor intends to become a whistleblower and put the truth before billions of people, whom he believes have the right to know. Firth, on his part, is determined to stop this from happening, as he remarks, "That truth will upend all established order across the entire world. If you do this, there’s no undoing it.” The official logline reads, "If you found out we weren’t alone, if someone showed you, proved it to you, would that frighten you? This summer, the truth belongs to seven billion people. We are coming close to … Disclosure Day."
The film is based on a story by Spielberg, and the screenplay was written by his longtime collaborator, David Koepp. Spielberg also serves as the film's producer, along with Kristie Macosko Krieger, representing Amblin Entertainment. 'Disclosure Day' arrives in theatres on June 12.
