LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Based on Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey's stage musical 'Grease', Paramount+'s rom-com show 'Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies' will release later this spring. The show is said to be a prequel to the widely praised 1978 film 'Grease'. The musical starred John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John and went on to become a huge hit.

The show's creator, Annabel Oakes, also serves as executive producer alongside Marty Bowen and Erik Feig. Alethea Jones serves as the producer. Currently, three directors are attached to the 'Grease' prequel, including Alethea Jones, Jamal Sims, and Diego Velasco. Alison Levering, Annabel Oakes, Laura Pollak, Kayla Richardson, Raul Martin Romero, and Auriel Rudnick are among the writers. Music by Zachary Dawes, Nick Sena, and Justin Tranter will also be a significant part of the show.

When will ‘Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies’ release?

‘Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies’ will premiere on April 6, 2023, on Paramount+, with new episodes dropping weekly on Thursdays.

How to watch ‘Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies’?

The show will be accessible via Paramount+. Outside of the United States, Paramount+ is currently available in Australia, Canada, Germany, Italy, Latin America, the Middle East (as a pay TV channel), the Nordics, the United Kingdom, and Ireland. The streaming platform is accessible via the Apple App Store, Google Play, Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, Xbox, Playstation, Roku, and Google Chromecast.

What is the plot of ‘Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies’?

As mentioned earlier, 'Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies' is a prequel to 'Grease' and will explore how the 'Pink Ladies' were formed. The series takes place in 1954, four years before the original 'Grease', and follows four young women who feel like social misfits. They aspire to have fun on their own terms, reigniting a moral panic and a transition in Rydell High.

The television series will explore characters of color and their story arcs, problems related to social justice, and much more, which was not entirely feasible in 1978. 'Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies' would most likely deal with the era's societal expectations while preserving the same flamboyance, situation, and signature look as the original.

Who stars in ‘Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies’?

The series stars an incredibly talented ensemble of actors including Jackie Hoffman, Marisa Davila, Cheyenne Isabel Wells, Ari Notartomaso, Tricia Fukuhara, and Shanel Bailey. Actors Madison Thompson, Johnathan Nieves, Jason Schmidt, Maxwell Whittington-Cooper, and Chris McNally, with Charlotte Kavanagh, Josette Halpert, Nicholas McDonough, Maximo Weber Salas, and Alexis Sides, are also part of the show.

What is the buzz around ‘Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies’?

'Grease' shot John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John to Hollywood fame. While that bar may seem too high, it looks like the prequel will assume a different point of view. Fans who adore 'Grease' may have wondered about the events that led to the 'Pink Ladies', or whether they were real or fictionalized. The new show is expected to provide all the answers.

The musical series was originally slated for HBO Max under the title 'Grease: Rydell High'. However, after a few years in development, the retitled series ended up heading to Paramount's streaming service.
