‘Godzilla Minus Zero’ prepares major CinemaCon reveal for fans featuring Oscar-winning filmmaker
'Godzilla' fans have every reason to be hyped. Fresh off an Oscar win for 'Godzilla Minus One', the sequel, 'Godzilla Minus Zero', is set to stomp into CinemaCon 2026 with a much-awaited sneak peek. Held on April 14, the event is usually a platform for upcoming films to showcase special previews, and the upcoming Kaiju thriller is set to give the franchise faithful a visual treat.
The feature is set to release later this year on November 6 in North America, followed by 'Godzilla x Kong: Supernova' in March 2027. At the time of writing, the creature saga, 'Monarch: Legacy of Monsters', is currently streaming on Apple TV+.
The 'Godzilla Minus Zero' panel at CinemaCon will also see Oscar-winning filmmaker Takashi Yamazaki take the stage. The event takes place in Las Vegas from April 13-16 and will give attendees a chance to see the exclusive footage. Last year, multiple reports said the monster flick was eyeing a late 2026 release window after the project was announced on Godzilla Day 2025.
The production was slated to begin in Norway and New Zealand by the end of the same year. The late 2026 release means that the movie would have competed with a string of marquee releases, including Dwayne Johnson's 'Jumanji', the Robert Downey Jr.-starrer 'Avengers: Doomsday', and Timothée Chalamet's 'Dune: Part Three'. All three movies are slated to release between December 11 and 18. Other much-awaited releases include 'Greta Gerwig's Narnia: The Magician's Nephew', and 'The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping'.
The new film was greenlit following the success of 'Godzilla Minus One'. The film raked in $116 million at the box office after its reported budget was between $10-$15 million. Earlier, Yamazaki had hinted at his plans for the sequel. "If I were to direct the next Godzilla movie, I would like to do a sequel to this one," he said in a conversation with Comicbook. "There have been two standalone Godzilla films in a row now, so perhaps the next one will need to feature a villain monster."
The 2023 feature 'Godzilla Minus One' was a smash hit with critics and fans, who praised Yamakazi's storytelling style and the visual effects. Per Rotten Tomatoes' critics consensus, "With engaging human stories anchoring the action, Godzilla Minus One is one kaiju movie that remains truly compelling between the scenes of mass destruction."
Set in postwar Japan, the prequel starred Ryunosuke Kamiki as a former kamikaze pilot suffering from PTSD after encountering a giant Kaiju monster known as 'Godzilla.' The supporting cast includes Minami Hamabe, Yuki Yamada, Munetaka Aoki, Hidetaka Yoshioka, Sakura Ando, and Kuranosuke Sasaki. At the time of writing, there isn't much to say about 'Godzilla Minus Zero's cast and plotline. For now, all eyes will be on the CinemaCon panel, which will surely reveal more about the highly anticipated film.
