LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Selena Gomez’s latest single, 'Single Soon,' is a joyful take on a breakup song. In the song, Gomez sings about her excitement of heading back into single life.

The song's lyrics contain lines like "I know I'm a little high maintenance / But I'm worth a try" and "might not give a reason why / (Oh well) / We both had a lot of fun / Time to find another one / Blame it all on feeling young."

Is Selena Gomez's 'Single Soon' about The Weeknd?

The music video for the song portrays Gomez breaking up with a boyfriend using a post-it note, emulating the famous 'Sex and the City' breakup scene that the singer had previously hinted at.

However, Selena Gomez has refuted claims that the song is about her breaking up with her ex-boyfriend, The Weeknd.

Selena Gomez and The Weeknd fan theories

Selena Gomez has denied rumors that her new song, "Single Soon," is about The Weeknd, according to Pop Crave. The outlet reported that the singer replied to a post on Instagram speculating whether the song was about The Weeknd. "Couldn't be more false," Gomez wrote in the comment section of the post by HollywoodLife.

There are many fan theories about Selena Gomez’s song 'Single Soon' and its possible connection to her ex-boyfriend, The Weeknd.

Some fans think that the song's lyrics make reference to her romance with The Weeknd.

Gomez talks about several ways she could break up with her partner in the song, for instance: "Should I do it on the phone? / Should I leave a little note / In the pocket of his coat? (Yeah) / Maybe I’ll just disappear / I don’t wanna see a tear / And the weekend’s almost here."

The last two lines of this lyric, according to some fans, might be an allusion to The Weeknd's stage name.

The first half of this stanza may potentially be a reference to The Weeknd's 2020 song "Save Your Tears," in which he sings of hurting someone by leaving: "I'll make you cry when I run away / Save your tears for another day."

"Single soon is about the weeknd and you can’t change my mind," a fan wrote. Another fan said, "And the weekend's almost here"................" "Omg is SINGLE SOON about when she broke up with The Weeknd to get with Justin Bieber?" claimed another.

Despite these fan theories, it is important to note that Selena Gomez has not confirmed whether or not 'Single Soon' is about The Weeknd.

What did Selena Gomez say about 'Single Soon'?

The 'Calm Down' hitmaker discussed the significance of her recently released single 'Single Soon' on Friday, August 25.

The day after the popular song was released, the 31-year-old singer thanked her fans on Instagram and shared a black-and-white image from the accompanying music video.

She left a brief but heartfelt statement in her description and explained the meaning of her music.

"Thank you guys for all the love on Single Soon!!!" began the 'Only Murders in the Building' actress, who just made an unusual comment on her split with Justin Bieber.

"It's a playful anthem about being comfortable in your own skin and loving your own company," Selena went on.

She continued, "And it's also really fun to dance to!" with a pink heart emoji.

'Single Soon' is the first single from her upcoming album and her first musical release since the March 2021 release of her Spanish-language EP 'Revelación'.
