LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: ‘Good Morning America’ host Robin Roberts was all up and about in the latest episode of the morning show as she anchored a segment about celebrating the birthday of shelter and rescue dogs who seemed to have no date earmarked as their big day. 

Robin along with lifestyle contributor Lori Bergamotto welcomed the members of the North Shore Animal League on the show whose purpose is to rescue dogs and find them a new home. Carla, the rescue manager at North Shore specified that since these rescued dogs do not have a specified birthday, the team at Animal League decided to take August 1 as the official birthday for shelter dogs everywhere.

What is ‘Dogust First’? 

‘Dogust First’ is an initiative to celebrate the birthdays of all the shelter and rescue dogs everywhere with the sole purpose of promote people to foster puppies or welcome them into their homes. The North Shore Animal League has been at the task for a long and its members led by Carla recently appeared on ‘GMA’ to spread awareness about rescued pups and allow people to celebrate ‘August 1’ aka ‘Dogust First’ as the official birthday for rescued pups. Carla elaborated during the segment, “We are celebrating August the first as Dogust the first. We're celebrating birthdays to shelter dogs in shelters that we don’t know when their birthdays are.”

The North Shore Animal League of America is the world’s largest no-kill animal rescue and adoption organization. Their biggest goal is to create a no-kill world where all homeless pets find loving homes. The organization boasts impressive statistics of having saved and rescued over 1.1 million pets and has found homes for close to 56,000 pets to date. 



 

Robin Roberts urges viewers to “adopt, don’t shop” 

The ‘GMA’ host began the ‘Adopt a Dog’ segment by showing photographs of all the pets adopted by her co-hosts, especially George Stephanopoulos and Ginger Zee before pivoting to a photograph of herself with her dog, Lukas which she had adopted earlier. Robin later asked Carla, the rescue manager to elaborate on the importance of adopting a dog rather than just shopping for it. The ‘GMA’ host and lifestyle contributor, Lori Bergamotto later presented some goodies for the members of the North Shore Animal League and ended the segment by giving a cheque of $10,000 to this wondrous cause. Robin asked Carla, “How will you use it?” Carla thanked Robin and ‘GMA’ and said that the only will be used to save more pets going forward.
