What is Beyonce's 'Break My Soul' curse? Conspiracy theories spread as Lizzo scandal gathers steam
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Lizzo has currently been facing accusations and a lawsuit after three of her ex-dancers came forward to reveal the alleged dark side of her. Arianna Davis, Crystal Williams, and Noelle Rodriguez have filed a sexual harassment suit against the 35-year-old rapper, her company, Big Grrrl Big Touring, and dance team captain Shirlene Quigley while blaming them for body shaming as well as building an "overtly sexual" work environment.
Ron Zambrano, the attorney for the dancers, said as per CBS News, “The stunning nature of how Lizzo and her management team treated their performers seems to go against everything Lizzo stands for publicly, while privately she weight-shames her dancers and demeans them in ways that are not only illegal but absolutely demoralizing.”
What is Beyonce's 'Break My Soul' curse?
As the Lizzo scandal is ensuing, some internet users have seemingly tried to imply that the ‘Good as Hell’ singer has fallen because of Beyonce's mention of her name in the lyrics of her ‘Break My Soul’ remix. In the new song, Queen Bey has given a shout-out to 29 iconic Black music creatives, which included names like Kelly Rowland, Bessie Smith, Chlöe Bailey, Erykah Badu, Grace Jones, Janet Jackson, Lauryn Hill, Lizzo, and Madonna.
However, during her Renaissance tour in Foxborough, Massachusetts, on Tuesday, August 1, Beyonce did not take Badu’s full name and just repeated her last name. It has been speculated that she took a dig at her after the ‘Love of My Life’ singer accused her of copying her style.
‘Kelly Rowland next’
During the same performance, the 41-year-old singer-songwriter also omitted Lizzo, giving birth to conspiracy theories as a user posted on Twitter, “Lizzo has been the second to fall to the beyoncé break my soul curse.” The user included a screenshot of the song lyrics starting from Badu, and cancelled out her and Lizzo's name, which is followed by Kelly Rowland. Another user wrote in response to this, “Kelly Rowland next,” with a crying emoji. The third user shared, “Grace jones on there twice girl,” noting the lyrics of the song. “You know what Lizzo didn’t do anything deserves to be mentioned i didn’t like anything of her music she’s not like snoh aalgera, ella mai, mahila, or jorja smith those females are doing their best to r&b music and some of them dose dance music too,” a fourth one stated, implying that Lizzo should not have been in the song at all.

Meanwhile, a lot of people have slammed Lizzo after the allegations against her came out. A person commented on a news report of the lawsuit against her, “Whaaa. The person who promotes ‘body positivity’ is body shaming.” Another person commented, “Wasn't she on social media crying about being fat-shamed? Wow. Crazy.”

“When it comes to fat shaming, Lizzo has no shame,” a third user commented on a different post reporting that Lizzo weight-shamed her dancers. A fourth user tweeted, “Lizzo’s dancers made the show for me. If this is all true what a hypocrite. You can’t say live in your own skin and then criticize the dancers for gaining weight. SMH.”
