SPEEDWAY, INDIANA: After six years of union, Jewel and Ty Murray announced their decision to end their marriage, while stressing the couple's desire for a "loving" separation maintaining their son Kase as their top priority.

Murray, a nine-time World Champion professional rodeo cowboy who is currently retired from competition, spends a lot of time on his 2,100-acre private ranch in Stephenville, Texas when he is not slaving away for the causes that inspire him.

Meanwhile, the Grammy-nominated 'Foolish Games' singer opened up to PEOPLE about parenting her almost-teen son, Kase, now 12, at Project Angel Food's annual Angel Awards dinner.

Jewel says her son Kase has a 'really beautiful voice'

At the Angel Awards dinner, Jewel claimed about motherhood, "Everybody told me that every year gets better and I was like, 'That's impossible.' So far it's true."

In response to a question on whether Kase got the music bug, the singer states, "He is. He plays drums. He has a really beautiful voice."

However, she doesn't anticipate Kase to pursue a career in music, saying, "He's not obsessed with it, so I don't know if that'll be his thing, but he sure has a natural gift."

In December, the singer performed a touching duet of 'Hands' with Kase for the two-hour holiday episode of 'The Masked Singer'.

The mother-and-son duo sang together while Jewel played her acoustic guitar. Kase gave Jewel a bear hug at the close of the duet and sweetly uttered, "I love you, Mom."

Jewel tweeted after the holiday special, "I love singing with my son! I'm legit [bawling] right now #TheMaskedSinger."

She also shared a tweet from Nicole Scherzinger, a judge on 'The Masked Singer,' praising the mother-son performance.

In May, Jewel posted a photo slideshow on Instagram, beginning and ending the post with 'Painters', as she mused about the decisions and giving ups mothers make for their kids.

Jewel and Ty Murray remained committed to co-parenting son Kase

Since their divorce, the two still remain committed to raising son Kase together and have even managed to keep their relationship cordial.

The four-time Grammy winner, however, had to put a lot of effort into finding self-acceptance after going through a terrible split, devoting all of her energy to writing her memoir and creating new music.

The acclaimed singer-songwriter earlier claimed that her album and book served as therapeutic outlets for her while she was through heartbreak, per E! News.

"The birth of my son really inspired me to make sure I'm the kind of woman I want my son to know, and looking at the places I've been stagnant, looking for things that were lost and reclaiming them," the singer added of her album 'Picking Up the Pieces'.

Even though Jewel wrote a few of the songs on 'Picking Up the Pieces' when she was 17 or 18, the artist asserted the lyrics haven't changed and have only progressed.

Jewel also claimed at the time she purposefully chose to write her memoir, 'Never Broken', so as to give her fans a more in-depth look into her personal life.

Murray, 53, and Jewel, 49, got married privately in the Bahamas in 2008 after dating for ten years.
