'What a beautiful shining star': Internet gets emotional over Xana Kernodle's old 'cheerful' photos

MOSCOW, IDAHO: On November 13, 2022, four University of Idaho students - Ethan Chapin, 20, Madison Mogen, 21, Xana Kernodle, 20, and Kaylee Goncalves, 21 - were murdered in cold blood. After weeks of investigation, police nabbed Bryan Kohberger, a 28-year-old criminology student, as a prime suspect, on December 30, 2022.
As the case pertaining to one of the most gruesome murders witnessed in the country in 2022 continues, Kernodle's "cheerful" pictures are fuelling emotional responses on the internet. In a now-deleted subreddit, a user shared a few photos of Kernodle, in which she is seen smiling, enjoying the moment and laughing her heart out. "Xana’s smile is so radiant and it is so clear that she was adored by everyone she knew," the user wrote while sharing the post.

The images invited a flurry of impassioned responses from netizens, some expressing anger towards the murder suspect, others their sympathies for the victim's family, and almost everyone praying that her soul rests in peace and her family received the justice they deserve. "To think of what the 4 of them endured. My God. She was just adorable," wrote one user, while a second commented, "She seemed like a really really cheerful person. R.I.P." A third user expressed, "What a beautiful shining star...rip beautiful girl."
Seeral users spared no words in expressing their ire towards Kohberger. "I f*****g hate this s**t, man. I see my friends and peers in all 4 of them. We probably would have had little in common had we met irl but it breaks me seeing these kids with their whole lives ahead of them. All for some sick f**k’s fantasy," wrote one user. Expressing a similar sentiment, another user wrote, "None of them deserved this. F**k you bryan." A third user commented, "Rest softly Angel. This f******g monster will pay big."
Kernodle's friend Ava, was quoted by ABC as saying that her "biggest joy in life was to be happy and to make others happy." Ava reportedly said, "I've never met someone like Xana before ever; she opened her arms wide and let me in her life the day I met her. Her biggest joy in life was to be happy and to make others happy. I had so much respect for Xana because she always made me happy, and her energy just poured out."
