Nationals vs Mets: Juan Soto's mammoth 466-foot home run is jaw-dropping, fans think ball 'hasn't landed'

Juan Soto may have just sent the ball to Mars when he smacked a 466-foot homer when the Washington Nationals took on the New York Mets on August 12. At the time of writing, the Nationals were trailing 4-10 in Bot 6, but a few more homers like this one and they'll be well on track. Just earlier this week, Soto rocketed a 462-foot homer and now this. You can watch the clip here.

The shot left fans in shock and awe as they attempted to come to terms with the shot Soto played. The reactions flowed in quick and fast along with GIFs and replays of the shot. "Me looking for where it landed," read one of the first reactions.

"I kept thinking it had to be foul because it went a million miles off the bat, but with Bob viewing remotely there was no way to get the kind of call he would have been able to give if he were actually at the ballpark. So I waited. That was monster," a fan opined.

The Mars discussion wasn't far away as one wrote: "They'll use Soto to launch the rocket for the Mars mission."

And considering he took the field after recovering from Coronavirus earlier, some argued the virus must probably enhance performance.

The shockwaves continued to ripple: "Juan Soto missed two weeks of summer camp. Then sat in his apartment for 10 days after what the Nats think was a false-positive COVID test. He is hitting .400. He has 4 HRs and 9 RBI in 7 games. I have no words for what he’s doing."

The statisticians were busy too and thanks to them, we have some numbers to look at.

"Longest home runs at Citi Field since 2015:

1. Giancarlo Stanton, 468 ft

2. Kyle Schwarber, 467 ft

3. Juan Soto, 466 ft (tonight)

4. Freddie Freeman, 464 ft

5. Juan Soto, 463 ft (Monday)

No one on the Mets cracks the top five." (Thanks for that Anthony DiComo).

With this, he's made his name up to the MVP charts according to a fan. "Fernando Tatis Jr Juan Soto Ronald Acuña Ozzie Albies Luis Robert Kyle Lewis Both Bichette Mike Yastrzemski Eloy Jiminez Aaron Judge Cody Bellinger The MVP race in the future is going to be ridiculous. The young talent is crazy."
