It is no secret that Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle had a relationship that was unique but after the latter and Prince Harry's bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey, there are speculations and strong opinions that all wasn't well with the sisters-in-law. Time and again, the interview saw Meghan bring Kate into the conversation with regards to how both of them were treated differently.

Those who have kept themselves abreast of the royal family news will know that Kate, Prince William, Prince Harry, and Meghan Markle were pretty much the Fantastic Four in the country.

An opinion by Richard Kay for the Daily Mail delves deeper into the complicated relationship between Meghan and Kate that ends with one question: Was Kate's close kinship with Harry the actual reason for her allegations?

What apparently looked like roses and sunshine was quickly marred by a downpour of shocking developments. Multiple reports of unrest within brothers and "doors being slammed" made it to the newspapers. The infamous argument of 'Who made who cry' between Meghan and Kate did the rounds for quite some time, and with the interview revealing some shocking details, the floor was just thrown open for intense speculations if Meghan's accusations were due to how close Kate was to Harry.

Kay remarked that the closeness was one of the main reasons that could have caused the rift. The incident of one of the duchesses leaving the fitting room crying had different versions. While Meghan said it was Kate who made her cry, a Times report claimed it was the other way around and Meghan had slammed the door on her face. Kay continued to use examples where Kate bore the brunt of Meghan's anger and jealousy.

Kay wrote, "Did Meghan envy that easy kinship that existed between William, Kate and Harry, who had turned themselves into the most popular act on the royal stage?" Kay asks readers. "Their natural warmth and affection for one another shone through the pictures at engagement after engagement. Whether it was the London Olympics, a premiere for the film Paddington Bear, visiting the set of the Harry Potter films or cheering on runners in the London Marathon, their faces were always wreathed in smiles."

"And when William wasn’t around, Harry was always a reliable stand-in to accompany Kate, whom he once memorably described as the sister he’d always wanted," Kay added.

There was also an example of the sisters-in-law visiting Wimbledon together and how Kate had been instrumental in helping Meghan into the family. The story compares Meghan's gushing views about Kate in 2017 and the cold remarks from the interview. Kay's piece leans heavily in support of Kate. "While he and Meghan certainly knew one another well enough, instead of teaching her about the pitfalls and privileges of royalty they appeared to spend their time compiling a bucket list of grievances," the story highlights.

"There was one other fatal ingredient: hierarchy. To the Californian who had found success and (limited) fame on her terms, the prospect of forever playing second fiddle to Kate, whose accomplishments had been secured via a wedding ring, was unpalatable."

And while there is generous support coming in for Kate, there seems to be one glaring takeaway: Meghan pretty much hated Kate for her closeness with Harry.
