UPDATE: Rapper and social media influencer Lil Tay has confirmed she's alive over 24 hours after an Instagram post on her official account claimed both she and her brother Jason Tian had 'unexpectedly' died.

The 14-year-old jas claimed her that her Instagram account was 'hacked.'

"I want to make it clear that my brother and I are safe and alive, but Iā€™m completely heartbroken, and struggling to even find the right words to say," Lil Tay told TMZ today.

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: In a surprising turn of events, the news of rapper Lil Tay's reported death has left both fans and skeptics alike in a state of confusion.

The announcement, made through an Instagram post on August 9, 2023, by the family of the social media sensation, has raised questions about its authenticity and legitimacy.

The announcement and initial shock

The post, which shared the tragic news of Lil Tay's death and that of her brother, initially shocked the online community. The family, grieving over their unexpected loss, expressed their devastation.

"The outcome was unexpected and has left us all in shock," the post read. The family has also appealed for privacy during this trying time, highlighting that the circumstances surrounding the tragic deaths are still under investigation.

However, the news quickly gave rise to skepticism and speculation. Many individuals began to question the veracity of the announcement, with some even suggesting that the post might have been generated using artificial intelligence (AI), specifically ChatGPT. Given Lil Tay's history as an internet personality and her controversial past, the possibility of a hoax was on the minds of many.

Statements from individuals close to Lil Tay

Tay's father and former manager Christopher Hope told Insider that he was unable to confirm the authenticity of the news. Similarly, her former manager Harry Tsang emphasized the need for "cautious consideration" and refrained from confirming or denying the news.

"Given the complexities of the current circumstances, I am at a point where I cannot definitively confirm or dismiss the legitimacy of the statement issued by the family," Tsang stated.

The confusion was exacerbated by the absence of official investigations by law enforcement agencies in both Los Angeles and Vancouver, where the siblings resided. Neither police department had any ongoing investigations related to the reported deaths, further fueling doubts.

Online observers and fans of Lil Tay also expressed skepticism, with some calling for further investigation into the matter. The speculation was rooted in the fact that TMZ had taken down their article about her death, and comments suggesting that Lil Tay's parents should be scrutinized gained traction.

Was Lil Tay's death announcement written by ChatGPT?

"The police are claiming they have NO record of Lil Tay (Claire Hope) or her brother's death. Additionally, someone put a prompt through ChatGPT that produced an almost identical paragraph to the death announcement posted on her insta. This whole thing is shady af," one observer tweeted.

"Bro, there is no way they lied about that... Her parents need to be investigated," another wrote.

"I think the biggest indicator (asides from there being no records) is that TMZ have not reported on it," a comment read. "Time for a CPS visit it seems," someone else offered.

"This is confusing, cause apparently Variety confirmed it with her management. Unless her management is like her parents or brother, seems like it's true," another chimed in.
