'Vikings' Season 6 Episode 6: Fans are in tears as their favorite Lagertha gets killed by demented Hvitserk
The end of an era is finally here. The legendary shield maiden, former Vikings chieftain, mother, queen, and one of the most valiant warriors of her times, Lagertha’s journey comes to an end. After fighting through endless battles over nearly a hundred years, she faced her demise in the most uninspiring way. This is not only disturbing us, her admirers, but also making fans sad that they lost their favorite character.
When the Seer had prophesized earlier that Lagertha would die in the hands of a son of Ragnar, we had expected a war, a fight, or at least a situation which demands Lagertha to stand up for herself and die with pride. And then she would be the rightful entrant to Valhalla.
For any Viking warrior, that is the ultimate goal and desire and we understand the sentiment. But the way Lagertha had to die kind of belittles her characteristics of the mighty warrior that she has been known for. She had gone through tougher times than most of the other characters and still managed to survive the tide of time. And yet, her journey ends in the least expected way.
A devout fan is all heart for her and comments, "My daughter. My shieldmaiden. My queen. My Lagertha, your All-Mother awaits you. #Lagertha #Vikings #vikingsseason6."
Some fans cannot even believe that she is dead! Here’s what someone has to say, "Bloody hell they did kill Lagertha! #vikingsseason6."
And some fans are not stopping to shed a tear or two in honor of the great shield maiden. "I knew I would cry when Lagertha does #vikingsseason6."
Not only was she was a legendary Vikings whose death will affect all in the future, but as a character, Lagertha was also powerful for the story ahead. Now that she is gone, we wonder what would take the place of her character. Just as one fan comments, "#vikingsseason6 Very sad ending to Lagertha. What is left of the season???"
Going beyond the characterization, fans are also looking at Katheryn Winnick’s performance and are in awe and admiration, and have extreme love for the actor.
A fan is all praise of her and tweets, "@KatherynWinnick Thank you for a wonderful portrayal of Lagertha. The past 6 seasons of @HISTORYVikings have been wonderful. I can't wait to see what the Gods have fated for you. #vikingsseason6 #Thankyou."
And thus, a big chapter of the Vikings history comes to an end, albeit a sad one, but there's more to go as we speak.
