LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Victoria Alonso's exit from Marvel Studios was quite a shock for fans and industry professionals. The internet is speculating the reason behind Alonso vacating her position as the Studio's President in charge of VFX and Animation after 17 long years. While the reasoning behind is still unknown, there is a new source of information in the news that suggests The Walt Disney Company had ostensibly fired Alonso.

It is no secret that Marvel Studios had some struggles at the start of 2023, when 'Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania' didn't work at the box office and became the worst-rated Marvel film to date on Rotten Tomatoes. And with that, the fans of MCU have already been sharing their criticisms about Phase 4, it’s clear that Marvel and Disney feel the need to make some big changes.

Marvel Studios and Victoria Alonso have been in news lately after she left the production company. But, the recent report by Variety suggests that she was fired from her position as Marvel president in charge of physical production, post-production, VFX, and animation. The decision was made by a council including human resources, Disney’s legal department, and multiple executives including Disney Entertainment co-chairman Alan Bergman. The report also added that Alonso's direct boss, Kevin Feige wasn't involved in the decision and which in turn had Alonso "blindsided." Although it is unclear as to why Alonso was fired, everything points out to Marvel's VFX. Recently, a VFX tech spilled beans about 'Ant-Man 3' CGI being compromised for 'Black Panther: Wakanda Forever', which only adds up to the major understaffing problem that Marvel Studios is going through.

'Epitome of professional'

According to reports about Victoria Alonso being fired by Disney, some former professionals from Disney reached out to the source to share their perspective of Alonso and shared, "[Alonso] was the epitome of professional, and knows her stuff," a former Disney Executive told Variety. "The idea of a very senior exec terrifying rank and file artists, per some reports, feels a bit off," a senior VFX artist told source and denied reports about Alonso singling out individual artists. One visual artist also came out to say that the problem with Marvel Studios is that they don't give a clear guidance about the kind of work they want to see, "The show I was on really struggled because it was an established character whose powers they were reconceiving for the MCU," the artist said on the to the source. Most complaints, they said, had one thing in common: "Marvel doesn’t figure sh*t out beforehand."

Regardless of the reasoning behind Alonso's exit, Marvel is under pressure as Phase 5 gets underway, and with that comes to another hole to fill amid the loss of another longtime virtuoso.
