White Sox's right-hander Michael Kopech has filed for divorce from 'Riverdale' actress Vanessa Morgan, just six months after tying the knot. The news comes a few days after Vanessa announced her pregnancy without mentioning anything about her husband Kopech. The actress even announced that she'll be welcoming a baby 'boy.' Kopech earlier confirmed that he'll be taking time off from playing for the White Sox due to 'personal reasons'.
Vanessa made her acting debut in 2000 with the VH1 film 'A diva's Christmas carol.' She was also seen in 'The latest buzz as Amanda Pearce. Apart from that, the actress has appeared in 'My baby sitter's is a vampire', 'Greek charming' in 2011 and 'Degrassi: The Next Generation' in 2013. But the actress got a major share of fame when she started starring as Toni Topaz in 'Riverdale.' When asked about the similarities she has with her character in 'Riverdale', Vanessa told Harpersbazaar "I think we’re similar in some ways, and then not in some others. I’m obviously not part of a gang! But sometimes when I’m with the Serpents, it seems pretty cool to be in one. Toni’s into photography, and it’s something that I’m super interested in getting involved in—I want to take some photography classes. I like how smart she is."

When they met
Kopech and Vanessa started dating in 2019. The couple then got engaged in 2019 when Kopech popped the question during their romantic getaway in Mooney Falls, Arizona. Kopech posted the proposal video on Instagram captioned “So I’ll start with the obvious: I love you,” he said. “I love you intensely, passionately, & also at times, recklessly.”
“I’m a very non traditional type of person and I know I’ve found my match in you when it comes to that especially. Our relationship probably doesn’t make sense to many people for a s— ton of reasons, but we’re not doing it for them. We know this is forever. Why would we wait? lol,” he continued. In the note, Kopech also praised her for being there "when I felt I had lost my mind," adding, “You stayed by my side for these seemingly random changes of my life. You stayed when often times I didn’t deserve it. You’ve loved me for ME from day one. Completely unselfishly. You’re undeniably the spark that reignited my fire.”
When they got married

When Vanessa announced her pregnancy
Vanessa recently shared her pregnancy news on social media. Then, last week the actress also shared a gender-reveal video and a sonogram on social media, captioned “Was debating keeping this part of my life hidden but I knew people would see pictures eventually with my belly & I wanted you guys to hear it from me. I do want to keep this chapter of my life private but did want to be the first to share the news. I am overjoyed to be welcoming my baby boy into the world this January."
Vanessa said that the pregnancy has given her a new outlook towards life, explaining, “It’s almost like everything I thought mattered in this life has completely changed.. We’re here for such a greater purpose and life is so precious. I can’t believe how much growth & strength you’ve already given me as your mom. It’s like God knew I needed you, my angel. The universe works in mysterious ways but always times everything the way it was meant to be. Lil one you were made with so much love & already exude a light so strong it warms my belly. Thank you God for this blessing, I’m just so happy & can’t wait to dedicate every day to be the best mommy I can be. Vanessa didn't mention husband Kopech anywhere in the long post. And it seemed like, that was the clue that the couple gave to their fans regarding their 'separation.'
When Kopech filed for divorce
Kopech filed for divorce on July 19. The reason for the separation is still not known and the couple hasn't really opened about it on social media.
