'Van Helsing' Season 4 premiere sets former vampire Julius up as humanity's last hope as his blood could be key to victory

Julius still has enhanced healing abilities and is more than capable of taking out multiple armed guards even in a weakened state. His abilities lead Blak-Tek to conclude that Julius could be a valuable asset as his blood may be used to synthesize a new bio-weapon

The dystopian world of 'Van Helsing' has never seemed more hopeless. In the never-ending war between humans and vampires, the only advantage humanity had over the undead was that the monsters could only move around at night.

Thanks to the experiments of the mysterious organization known as Blak-Tek, that is no longer an advantage we have as the vampires have now mutated the ability to survive in sunlight.

It's a development that makes an already bleak situation look much, much worse. But as they say, when times are darkest, a hero always arrives and the hero who may prove to be humanity's savior is none other than Julius (Aleks Paunovic).

That's right, while the show's lead hero Vanessa Van Helsing (Kelly Overton) is busy trying to hunt down the source of the vampire plague, it is the former vampire Julius who may hold the key to humanity's salvation.

Season 4's first episode revealed that despite having been cured of his vampirism, Julius still has enhanced healing abilities and is more than capable of taking out multiple armed guards even in a weakened state. His abilities lead Blak-Tek, with some convincing from Doc (Rukiya Bernard), to conclude that Julius could be a valuable asset as his blood may be used to synthesize a serum that could make humans capable of going head-to-head with vampires.

That's not to say Julius is some kind of super-soldier as he barely managed to survive an encounter with his former minion, Scab (Rowland Pidlubny). It's not entirely clear how successful this new initiative might prove to be and Doc herself raises doubts about whether she can actually deliver on her promises.

However, this serum is the closest thing to hope the human race has had on 'Van Helsing' in a long time and with Vanessa's mission looking more and more likely to fail, maybe Julius can help provide a way out of this nightmare.

'Van Helsing' Season 4 Episode 2 will air on Syfy October 4.
